Chapter 228 Ridiculous
Chapter 228 Ridiculous
Lu Fangtong glanced at his watch. He had a meeting that afternoon, and waiting for her here had already wasted a lot of time. He stood up, picked up his briefcase, and said, "I have other matters to attend to. If Miss Geng has nothing else, I'll take my leave."
"Wait!" she called out to Lu Fangtong, who had already reached the door of the private room. "It's about Lu Shuaishuai."
Lu Fangtong paused for a moment and released his grip on the doorknob of the private room.
An hour later, the private room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Lu Fangtong's face was very pale, even more so than when Geng Miaowan first entered the room. His face was so calm that no one could tell his emotions, but his eyes, hidden behind his glasses, were already churning with a storm.
He looked at Geng Miaowan, his eyes gradually turning to disappointment. "Miss Geng, you really disappoint me." He never expected that this young girl, unable to find a way to cure his child, would actually blame everything on ghosts and gods. He let out a soft chuckle, as if mocking her, or perhaps mocking himself.
"Do you think I'm a three-year-old? You think I'd believe such absurd things? I really didn't expect Dr. Peng to have an assistant like you, shirking all responsibility when you can't find a solution yourself." He chuckled twice more. "Ghost? You really have the nerve to say that!"
He thought for a moment and then said, "I will call Dr. Peng to cancel our agreement. I hope you will stop interfering in my child's affairs."
As he spoke, he picked up his briefcase and headed for the door; he didn't want to stay there a moment longer. He must have been crazy to waste his meeting time sitting here listening to her talk like this.
Geng Miaowan hadn't expected Lu Fangtong to believe her, but she hadn't anticipated his strong reaction. She rushed over and leaned against the door of the private room, staring intently at him as she said, "Mr. Lu, please let me finish what I have to say."
She knew that if he left today, it would be difficult for her to see him again.
Lu Fangtong blinked a few times, somewhat confused as to how the person who had just been sitting in that chair had suddenly moved in front of him. However, he didn't have time to dwell on that right now, as Geng Miaowan's words had stirred up another wave of resentment within him. He said with a stern face, "I don't want to hear any more of your nonsense and baseless ramblings. I have other things to do, please move aside."
Geng Miaowan simply shook her head at him, leaning against the door, showing no intention of moving aside.
At this moment, she was incredibly grateful that Lu Fangtong was a very well-mannered gentleman. Even though his face was filled with impatience, he didn't resort to violence or push her away. He simply said in a voice far colder than usual, "Miss Geng, if you continue like this, I will call the police."
As he spoke, he actually took out his phone and pressed the dial button. Geng Miaowan knew he meant what he said, and a sudden panic gripped her. Her words came out without thinking. "No matter what you're going to do, you have to hear me out today, or Shuai Shuai will be dead!"
Lu Fangtong stopped dialing, suddenly looked up and glared at Geng Miaowan. His eyes behind his glasses were bloodshot, and his face showed a sinister and angry expression she had never seen before.
He suddenly let go of his phone and rushed to Geng Miaowan, reaching out to pull her away from the doorway.
Geng Miaowan had a feeling that she had driven the saint mad, and she suddenly felt very sad. Because she saw a fleeting sadness in his eyes behind his glasses, and his expression contained so much.
Unbeknownst to her, she had inadvertently touched a raw nerve. Lu Shuaishuai's health had been deteriorating day by day, and this morning, as he was leaving home, he received a call from the kindergarten saying that his condition was no longer suitable for him to stay there.
He and Jiang Lan took him to every hospital in the city, conducting every possible examination. All the doctors told them he wasn't sick, which nearly broke them both. Now, this person was telling him to his face that his child would die—it was as if his heart had been ripped out, brutally trampled, and then thrown to the ground.
In his semi-mad state, Lu Fangtong possessed immense strength. If it weren't for Geng Miaowan's extraordinary strength, she would have already been pulled away by him. She could only cling tightly to the door, gripping the handle with both hands to prevent Lu Fangtong from pulling her away.
He kept trying to persuade him, "Mr. Lu, please calm down, please calm down."
However, Lu Fangtong couldn't calm down at all. He knew in his heart that what he was doing was uncivilized, but he couldn't care less about that now. He even said fiercely, "It's all your fault, it's all your fault. If it weren't for you, our Shuai Shuai would never have become like this."
Although he knew in his heart that this matter had nothing to do with Geng Miaowan, he couldn't help but utter such words, as if his heart, which had been suffocating for a long time, had finally found an outlet.
"It wasn't me, it was Xiaoming, Mr. Lu, it was Xiaoming!" Geng Miaowan was still trying to convince Lu Fangtong. "Have you ever wondered why Xiaoming, whom Shuai Shuai mentioned, only appears at night, and only in your house? He can say things he's never seen or done before, and tell you that Xiaoming told him? Why did he suddenly become afraid of water? There wasn't any water at night, but in the morning there were puddles on the ground next to the yard? Strange water stains appeared on the floor after it was wiped?"
Lu Fangtong hesitated for a moment, but his hands didn't stop moving. He had encountered all the things she mentioned. Jiang Lan had told him more than once that she had seen strange water stains on the floor. But at the time, he hadn't paid any attention, assuming it was just an accident.
Geng Miaowan knew he had listened to her, and her face lit up with joy. She continued, "It really is Xiaoming. You must believe me. Xiaoming is a ghost. He's not someone Shuai Shuai imagined. If we don't find the real Xiaoming, Shuai Shuai will be in danger!"
However, he quickly dismissed the idea, thinking that ghosts couldn't possibly exist in this world; it was simply absurd.
Geng Miaowan finally couldn't resist his strength and was pulled away. Lu Fangtong opened the door and stormed out, not even bothering to look at her again.
She called out behind him, "Mr. Lu, you must believe me! As long as we find Xiaoming, we can save Shuai Shuai!" (To be continued.)
