Chapter 265 Three Lives
Chapter 265 Three Lives
Qiuqin's bright eyes darted around as she softly said, "Your Highness is exceptionally intelligent and meticulous; he must have made thorough arrangements beforehand and will not be easily captured by that villain. But what should we do now that we're trapped here?" An Ye frowned, pondered for a long time, and then said in a deep voice, "The situation is critical now. Let's leave this place through this secret passage first and then make further plans. Perhaps Your Highness has been waiting for us outside the passage for quite some time."
The two men, filled with trepidation, crept slowly along the secret passage. The passage was dark and damp, permeated with an old, decaying smell. Faint phosphorescent lights flickered on the walls, as if they might extinguish at any moment, plunging them back into endless darkness. Their footsteps echoed clearly in the silent passage, each step seeming to pound on their taut nerves.
Suddenly, a faint yet strange light appeared ahead. An Ye instantly became alert, his muscles tensing. He instinctively shielded Qiu Qin behind him, his gaze fixed intently on the source of the light. When they cautiously approached, they saw it was a small, unidentified animal radiating a soft glow. The animal's eyes, like sparkling stars, darted around, glanced at An Ye and Qiu Qin, and as if sensing their predicament, turned and ran deeper into the secret passage.
A sense of unease crept into An Ye's heart; she felt something was amiss. Without dwelling on it, she took Qiu Qin's hand and followed the little animal closely. Soon, the animal stopped before a hidden door. An Ye took a deep breath, cautiously reached out, and gently pushed open the door. Instantly, a breath of fresh air rushed in, revealing a captivating scene, like a paradise on earth. Flowers bloomed in profusion, grass was lush and green, butterflies fluttered, and a stream murmured. Ye Jiuchen stood tall and straight amidst this beautiful landscape, a faint smile playing on his lips, his gaze gentle as he looked at them. This, it turned out, was Ye Jiuchen's carefully planned escape route, prepared in advance to deal with this unexpected turn of events.
Qiuqin's delicate face instantly lit up with a radiant joy. She moved lightly and quickly towards Ye Jiuchen, her voice filled with barely suppressed joy and relief: "Your Highness, you are safe and sound, that's wonderful! Just now in that secret passage, An Ye and I were filled with worry, fearing that something might have happened to you. Now that I see you are unharmed, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief."
Ye Jiuchen remained calm, merely nodding slightly. His deep eyes revealed composure and wisdom: "This place is not a place to linger. The longer we delay, the greater the danger. We must leave immediately."
Everyone obeyed without question, following closely behind Ye Jiuchen. They slowly passed through that dreamlike paradise, where flowers bloomed in profusion, petals fell in abundance, and fragrant grasses grew lushly, resembling a fairyland. Following a winding path, they soon arrived at a small village at the foot of a mountain.
Scattered throughout the village are rows of quaint houses, with wisps of smoke rising from their chimneys, adding a touch of warmth to the tranquil scene. In the fields, farmers are diligently working with hoes; at the village entrance, elderly people sit on stone benches chatting leisurely; and children laugh and play in the alleyways. When they see Ye Jiuchen and his group, dressed in fine clothes, stepping into the village, the villagers stop what they are doing, their eyes gleaming with curiosity, and they begin to whisper amongst themselves.
Ye Jiuchen walked straight to the village chief's residence. He was tall and imposing, exuding an extraordinary aura, his every move displaying a kingly demeanor. Upon meeting the village chief, he neither humbly nor arrogantly introduced himself and earnestly requested to stay in the village for a few days to rest. The village chief was a kind-faced and benevolent old man. He sized Ye Jiuchen up and down, seeing his dignified bearing and finding him unlike a wicked person, and hearing of his misfortune, felt pity and readily agreed.
Life in the village seemed peaceful and leisurely. At dawn, everyone rose with the crowing of roosters, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the tranquility and peace of the countryside. However, Ye Jiuchen and his group were secretly plotting. They often gathered in a secluded room, whispering their strategies, analyzing the changing situation, studying their opponents' weaknesses, and not overlooking any detail that could potentially turn the tide.
One night, the moonlight, like water, bathed every corner of the village. Qiuqin, filled with worry, tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Finally, unable to contain her anxiety, she rose and went to find Ye Jiuchen. Her brows furrowed slightly, and she said softly, "Your Highness, hiding in this small village under assumed names is not a long-term solution. Are we just going to stand by and watch those treacherous officials run rampant in the capital, bringing disaster to the country and its people?"
Ye Jiuchen stood with his hands behind his back, his gaze as firm as a rock, looking at the distant night sky, and slowly said, "How could I be willing to accept this? But now the enemy is strong and we are weak. If we act rashly, it will only be like throwing an egg against a rock, and all our efforts will be in vain. We need to wait for the right opportunity, a chance that will allow us to win in one blow. Now is not the time."
No sooner had he finished speaking than An Ye rushed over, his footsteps echoing clearly in the quiet night. "Your Highness, there is news." An Ye knelt on one knee, clasped his hands in a fist salute, and presented a confidential letter.
Ye Jiuchen took the secret letter, quickly glanced through it, and then a confident smile appeared on his lips: "It seems that the opportunity we have been waiting for has finally arrived. This time, we will definitely make them pay a heavy price for what they have done."
After several days of meticulous preparation, everyone was ready to jump off a bow, their hearts brimming with eager anticipation. Ye Jiuchen, clad in a black robe that billowed in the wind, his expression cold and resolute, led his like-minded followers, striding confidently onto the long journey back to the capital. They harbored lofty ambitions, like eagles about to spread their wings, determined to unleash a sweeping, earth-shattering transformation in the capital, to renew justice and order on this land. However, they were completely unaware that what awaited them were treacherous obstacles as numerous as towering mountains, challenges far more brutal and intense than battlefield combat, a perilous journey fraught with thorns, shrouded in mist, and filled with unknowns and dangers.
The moment they stepped into the capital, a heavy, oppressive atmosphere, so oppressive it was hard to breathe, washed over them like a surging tide. On the surface, the streets and alleys of the capital seemed bustling with pedestrians and filled with the cries of vendors, everything appearing as peaceful and serene as ever. But beneath this seemingly calm surface, an invisible undercurrent was churning, danger lurking everywhere, like a giant trap silently opening its bloodthirsty maw, awaiting their arrival.
