Chapter 251 Testify
Chapter 251 Testify
The next day, at the police station, Officer Zhang rubbed his temples wearily.
He said helplessly, "We're being pressured by higher authorities to close the case as soon as possible."
I clenched my fist. "But the truth hasn't been uncovered yet..."
The case is almost over, isn't it? As long as the uncle and aunt testify, in time, the people from the travel agency will definitely be brought to justice.
Officer Zhang sighed, "I know, but..."
He hesitated, his eyes filled with apology.
“This case may not turn out the way we expected,” he said in a low voice, without looking me in the eye.
I lowered my head to hide the disappointment in my eyes.
"I understand your difficulties." He forced a smile.
Officer Zhang patted me on the shoulder, "Sorry to disappoint you."
"You've already helped a lot."
I left the police station, my steps heavy, and suddenly I didn't know how to go on, but I knew this matter was not over yet.
When I got home, I sat on the sofa and stared blankly at the TV.
Jiang Yichen walked over with a teacup in his hand. "Still thinking about the case?"
"Um.''
“It must have been the Jin family who put pressure on us,” Jiang Yichen said casually.
I looked up abruptly. "The Jin family? What Jin family?"
Jiang Yichen realized he had let something slip and his expression froze.
“It’s nothing.” He turned to leave.
I immediately stood up and stopped him, saying, "What do you know? Tell me!"
Jiang Yichen avoided my gaze, "Don't get involved in this."
"Why?" I persisted. "Do you know something inside?"
Jiang Yichen sighed: "Knowing too much won't do you any good."
Jiang Yichen pressed down on my shoulder again: "I'm doing this for your own good."
I shook off his hand: "I don't need this kind of protection!"
Jiang Yichen looked at me helplessly: "Promise me you won't act impulsively."
I did not answer him.
However, Jiang Yichen knew that I would definitely not give up so easily.
The following day, Jiang Yichen used his connections to find the police station leadership.
"This matter has a huge social impact," he said bluntly, "and cannot be closed hastily."
The leader looked up from the document, his face showing difficulty.
“I understand how you feel,” he said, rubbing his temples, “but I’m under a lot of pressure too.”
Jiang Yichen sneered: "Pressure? Or is someone putting pressure on you?"
The leader's expression changed.
“You can’t just say things like that,” he said in a low voice.
Jiang Yichen stepped forward: "I have three days."
"This..." the leader hesitated.
Jiang Yichen stared into his eyes: "Just three days."
The leader sighed: "You know how difficult this is..."
“Difficult doesn’t mean impossible.” Jiang Yichen stood his ground.
There was silence in the office.
"Alright," the leader finally relented, "three days it will be."
"That's enough."
After saying that, he turned and left.
That day, I felt uneasy and kept communicating with Jiang Yichen. Jiang Yichen told me that the police station would give us three more days to find other witnesses and more evidence.
I decided to visit each of them in person. I went to the police station to ask for the list of tourists. Officer Zhang was sitting in his office, which was piled high with documents.
"This is a list of all passengers and their contact information." Officer Zhang pushed over a stack of documents.
I looked through the list carefully and found that a large portion of the people listed were from out of town: "We need to first screen out those who might be willing to testify."
"These materials haven't been fully organized yet; it will probably be done by tomorrow."
Upon hearing that it would take two days, I immediately sensed something was wrong. Tomorrow wouldn't work; I had to get it done quickly.
Afterwards, I decided that if I couldn't finish reading it today, I would take it home to organize. With Jiang Yichen's help, I managed to stay up all night and circled more than twenty key targets.
The next morning, I started visiting each household.
The first house was opened by a middle-aged woman.
"Big sister, we've come here to..."
"Bang!" The door slammed shut.
I took a deep breath and walked toward the next store.
Finally, at the fifth house, a retired teacher was willing to listen to me finish.
“This is truly outrageous,” the old teacher adjusted his glasses. “I’m willing to testify.”
I excitedly grasped his hand: "Thank you so much!"
Meanwhile, Officer Zhang was also visiting other passengers.
“I…I’m afraid of retaliation,” a young man hesitated.
Officer Zhang said sternly, "We will provide protection; please trust the police."
After three days of effort, they persuaded five passengers.
On the day of the trial, I arrived at the court early.
I saw several passengers who were giving their testimonies standing nervously in the corridor.
“Don’t be afraid,” I comforted her, “we’re together.”
In court, the first passenger began his statement.
"They forced us to shop, and wouldn't let us leave if we didn't buy anything..."
The second passenger took out his phone: "This is a photo I took; the tour guide is threatening an elderly person."
I said, "The live stream clips online can all be used as evidence, and I've already submitted the paper materials."
As a key witness, I provided a detailed chain of evidence.
"This is a recording; it documents the entire process of the tour guide threatening the tourists."
The defendant's lawyer attempted to refute the claims, but his arguments proved weak and ineffective in the face of irrefutable evidence.
Ultimately, the judge adjourned the court for deliberation.
The waiting time seemed to last an exceptionally long time.
Finally, the judge returned to the courtroom.
"This court hereby declares the travel agency and its负责人 (person in charge) guilty!"
An uproar erupted in the courtroom.
I breathed a sigh of relief, tears welling up in my eyes. Seeing the tour guide across from me being arrested, my heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down.
Officer Zhang suddenly patted me on the shoulder and told me, "We did it."
Yes, although these past few days have been full of difficulties, we have also made some gains.
The passengers who testified exchanged smiles, relieved.
I knew this victory was hard-won, and overjoyed, I rushed towards Jiang Yichen, crying, "We won!"
Jiang Yichen caught it steadily, a smile playing on his lips: "I knew you could do it." He looked at me with doting eyes.
The older men and women, along with other passengers, gathered together, their faces beaming with joy.
"Finally, the bad guys have been brought to justice!" the uncle said excitedly.
The woman wiped away her tears: "Thanks to you all..."
Just as I was about to say something, I suddenly felt a chill down my back.
I instinctively turned around and met a cold gaze.
Jin, the head of the family, stood on the steps of the courthouse, looking at me with a half-smile.
His eyes were like those of a venomous snake, sending chills down my spine.
I couldn't help but shiver.
Jiang Yichen immediately noticed and stepped in front of me.
His tall figure completely blocked the view of Boss Jin.
"Don't be afraid," Jiang Yichen said in a low voice, his tone firm.
I felt a little more at ease, but I still couldn't help but steal glances at Jiang Yichen's shoulder.
Boss Jin had already turned and left, but his meaningful smile seemed to still linger in the air.
Jiang Yichen grasped my hand. "I'm here."
"Haha, I know with you here, it doesn't matter who that person is."
The head of the Jin family stood not far away, watching them leave.
