Chapter 227 The Secret Chamber

Chapter 227 The Secret Chamber

The movie was still playing in the screening room, but no one was on the sofa. The room was dark, the lights were off, and the fruit on the table hadn't been touched.

At the far end of the screening room, there was a curtain full of charm, behind which two figures could be vaguely seen cuddling together.

The butler didn't dare linger and quickly left. He had originally intended to serve tea, but he almost saw something he shouldn't have.

Even after the door closed, the movie continued to play in the empty hall.

Behind the curtain was a small floor-standing bed. Before leaving, Lu He deliberately moved the lamp to the wall so that her shadow could be reflected on the curtain.

Behind the curtain, a pedestrian board was placed there neatly, shaped like two human figures embracing.

Meanwhile, the real Lu He and Zheng Ming had already slipped into Zhang Xiuru's room.

"Is this the entrance you're talking about?" Zheng Ming looked left and right, up and down, but couldn't find a place that looked like an entrance.

"They can't be trying to trick me, can they? This place doesn't look like a secret room at all..."

"Didn't you notice the orientation?" Lu He pointed out, "The headboard of this big bed is facing that street..."

"That's still a long way off. Although the direction is right, it's still too far. It's enough to build at least two villas." Zheng Ming didn't believe it.

Lu He decided to broaden his horizons. In order not to waste the precious time she had come up with, she squatted down and put the slot into the mechanism.

The sound of gears rang out, and to Zheng Ming's horrified gaze, the "coffin" elevator was pulled open like a drawer.

"Lie down..." Lu He instructed.

Zheng Ming's hesitant gaze.

"This thing can only hold one person at a time!" Lu He had no choice but to explain that the small space could only accommodate one person at a time, unless they were stacked on top of each other.

Don't even think about it!

Zheng Ming hesitated before lying down, but Lu He, finding him too slow, pressed his head down. Then, pointing to a button inside, she said, "Press that to take you to the secret room. Remember to bring the elevator back to me!"

Soon, we heard the elevator start moving.

Lu He remained alone in the room, lost in thought.

Zheng Ming's words just now reminded her that the distance from here to the secret room should be about the size of a villa.

But when I went there last time, I felt that the space wasn't that big, and that some of the space was hidden somewhere.

Lu He took out her phone, opened the map, and observed the aerial view of the area. She discovered that the street was not directly facing the head of the bed as she had perceived it to be.

That direction looks a bit like the radical of the Chinese character for "person" (人), and that left-falling stroke represents the street.

That vertical line is the track connecting the two villas to the secret room.

Lu He narrowed his eyes, which meant that there should be some hidden space to the lower right of the "亻" character, near the intersection of the two places.

The last time I went to that secret room, it felt like a square room, meaning that apart from the opening with the oil painting, there were probably other mechanisms.

As Lu He was pondering this, the elevator returned, and Zheng Ming also sent him a message saying that he had arrived safely.

Lu He dialed Zheng Ming's number.

"Hello? What's wrong? Hurry up and come over!" Zheng Ming urged as soon as he answered the phone.

"Where is your colleague who was keeping an eye on Zhang Dian?" Lu He asked somewhat anxiously.

"Huh? Zhang Dian is drinking at a small tavern, what's wrong?"

"Is he there all day?" Something just doesn't feel right.

"Yeah, he only went to the bathroom a few times, but he never left the tavern... I think he's a drunkard..."

Zheng Ming continued, “The tavern isn’t far away, it’s on Huaxi Street. I think he goes there often for drinks. My colleagues said he seems to know the owner very well.”

Huaxi Street? Lu He looked at the street layout on the map; the two streets were roughly in the shape of the Chinese character "入" (ru).

The pub area on this street is sandwiched between hidden spaces within secret rooms.

Lu He had a bold guess: the so-called tavern toilet was probably a mechanism leading to a hidden secret space.

Zhang Dian's frequent trips to the toilet might be a sign that he's waiting for them to take the bait. Could it be that he gave himself away when he came in last time?
