Chapter 39 Us from Different Worlds
Chapter 39 Us from Different Worlds
Ever since learning from the system that Xia Lan was a living, breathing person just like herself, Lu He began to re-evaluate their relationship.
This was completely different from what she had initially thought. Originally, she felt no guilt about Xia Lan's feelings, even though she was just playing around. In her eyes, his feelings were just a persona, not a person with real emotions.
But the truth is she was wrong. Although everyone in this world has a set of rules, within those rules, they are all living, breathing human beings with flesh and blood...
She suddenly couldn't face herself, couldn't face Xia Lan. Had she really been playing with other people's feelings like a scumbag? And now she was an outsider, disrupting the original order of this world, all so that she could return to her original world and change her fate... Wasn't that selfish?
In other words, she needs to destroy the Duanmu Group, even if it means the destruction of Duanmu Cong's family. Even after she leaves, Duanmu Cong will still exist and continue to eke out a living in this world.
Similarly, Xia Lan is also affected. Her current intervention makes it impossible for Xia Lan to return to a normal life. After she suddenly disappears, Xia Lan may not be able to get out of it and will have to continue living a painful life in this world...
That's too cruel...
Just like the person who treated Lu He before, he simply disappeared... Lu He was incredibly clever. When the system mentioned that she had encountered an outsider who invaded her world, she immediately guessed it. Because of that person, she suddenly stopped loving him and left, becoming a completely different person, like a stranger, disappearing without a trace, as if she had never known him at all...
By the time Lu He came to her senses, she had already left the villa area, wearing pajamas, and was wandering aimlessly through the upscale neighborhood. She didn't know where she was going, nor did she want to go home and face Xia Lan.
Duanmu Cong was driving towards the villa area when he suddenly saw Lu He walking by the street. She looked like an elf who had fallen to earth. Her world-weary eyes gave her an air of aloofness and cold elegance, as if she were far removed from the hustle and bustle of the world.
He stopped the car and honked the horn on the side of the road.
Lu He turned around. Hmm? It was Duanmu Cong's car. She ignored it and continued walking straight ahead.
"Hey!" Duanmu Cong rolled down the car window and shouted at her.
"What are you barking about, you dog!" Lu He was already annoyed when Duanmu Cong started honking his horn repeatedly, which just happened to be the target of his anger, earning him a barrage of curses.
"Uh..." Duanmu Cong was genuinely taken aback by the other party's outburst of profanity and was stunned. He quickly composed himself, jumped out of the car, and chased after Lu He: "Hey! Wen Shiyu, what's wrong with you!"
"Are you sick? Can't you see I'm in a bad mood? If you know what's good for you, get out of here!" Lu He didn't even bother to pretend anymore and lost her patience. She was too lazy to maintain the persona of Wen Shiyu; all she wanted to do was go crazy.
"Uh, what's wrong with you?" Duanmu Cong's anger turned to worry, because Wen Shiyu really seemed to be possessed and acting abnormally, his personality had changed drastically, and he was like a completely different person.
"Nothing much. Get out of the way, don't block my way." Lu He said coldly, continuing to walk aimlessly forward.
Duanmu Cong hesitated for a moment, then followed: "Are you really alright?"
"Are you deaf?"
“Tell me what’s bothering you. We’re friends, after all. I can’t just ignore you like this…” Duanmu Cong said, pointing to Lu He’s feet. Lu He looked down and realized that one of her slippers was missing. She did look quite disheveled.
Lu He simply shook his head. Although he was in a sorry state, he didn't want to pay any attention to Duanmu Cong.
But Duanmu Cong was persistent and continued to follow her silently from behind.
The two walked quietly for more than ten minutes.
Lu He turned around, and Duanmu Cong stopped in his tracks.
"How long are you going to follow me? Xia Lan is at home, why don't you go find her directly?" Lu He said calmly. In Duanmu Cong's eyes, this was the first time she had pushed him away.
“I need to make sure you’re alright. You look terrible right now…” Duanmu Cong stood still, his words firm and resolute.
"Thank you for your concern, but I don't need it. You can go now; I want to be alone for a while." Lu He remained aloof.
Duanmu Cong sighed, made a phone call, and then left.
After he left, Lu He continued to wander around, wanting to figure out what to do next.
Before long, Wen Yiming arrived. Without saying a word, he grabbed Lu He's hand and asked, "What are you doing? Why are you trying to take your own life? What's bothering you?"
"Huh?" Suicide? What? Who is it? Lu He was completely bewildered.
"What are you 'ah' about? Ah Cong called me and said you seem to be suicidal, and he wants me to come and take you home!" This was the first time Lu He had seen a look of concern in the eyes of this brother who was always hostile towards his sister.
Blood is thicker than water, and Wen Yiming actually still cares about his younger sister.
Perhaps in the past she simply viewed the world as a comic book, and her thinking was influenced by the black-and-white premise of comics, believing that everyone only had one emotional theme, either enemy or friend.
Only when she truly sees this place as a real world and everyone as a person with complex emotions can she observe the contradictory and rich inner world of each character.
"Go home!" Wen Yiming felt uneasy under Lu He's gaze, so he dragged her towards home.
"Brother, don't you hate me?" Lu He couldn't help but ask, wanting to hear an answer.
"Yes, I hate you. I hate your spoiled and unruly personality. I hate how you demean yourself by groveling before A-Cong. You weren't like this when you were little. Ever since you met Duanmu Cong in elementary school, you've changed..." Wen Yiming's words were heartfelt and sincere. The emotional fluctuations in his tone made Lu He truly feel his vibrant side. Wen Yiming even choked up a little at the end: "At first, you were such a cute little sister... Why did you become like this... No matter how much I hate you, you can't get hurt, understand?"
Lu He obediently let Wen Yiming pull her along, heading home. She was torn internally: should the mission continue? She needed to hurt every real person… could she still bring herself to do it?
