Chapter 23 Love Should Be Let Go

Chapter 23 Love Should Be Let Go

With a gloomy look in his eyes, Duanmu Cong stood at the factory gate, his fists clenched tightly.

Wen Yiming finally came out and strode towards Duanmu Cong.

"Ah Cong, let me explain..."

The unexpected punch made him stagger. He covered his bleeding mouth, his face burning with pain as it swelled up rapidly. He stared in disbelief at Duanmu Cong, who was still in the same position as when he threw the punch.

"Ah Cong?" Wen Yiming couldn't understand why Duanmu Cong suddenly became so irritable that he would directly hit someone without giving him any chance to explain.

"Shut up! You have no right to call me that!" Duanmu Cong withdrew his hand, straightened his collar which had been stretched open by the movement, and loosened his tie.

"What's wrong with you?" Wen Yiming asked, puzzled. How could such a close brother turn against him so easily?

“You know perfectly well… I know about what happened at the factory…” Duanmu Cong gritted his teeth, indignant.

Wen Yiming was stunned. He actually knew that the factory couldn't fulfill the orders! He had originally planned to find a solution before telling Duanmu Cong.

Judging from Wen Yiming's stunned reaction, he must have felt a blank in his mind after being suddenly exposed.

"Heh, if I hadn't asked, were you planning to keep it a secret until the delivery date?" Duanmu Cong sneered, his face full of bitterness and self-mockery.

"No, let me explain. I didn't mean to hide it from you... I just..." Wen Yiming was flustered and at a loss, not knowing how to explain himself.

"Just what?" Duanmu Cong's deep eyes were filled with the pain of betrayal: "Heh, just liking Xia Lan?"

"I..." Wen Yiming gasped. How did he even know this? There was no way he could explain it now, and no matter what he said, he wouldn't believe him.

"Little Flower...that stray cat...what, you think it's your child, right?" Duanmu Cong's words were barbed: "You don't really think you can defeat me with this kind of tactic, do you?"

"What methods did I use? That cat... we just picked up a stray cat..." Wen Yiming took a step back, feeling somewhat awkward, a sense of guilt and unease at being seen through for doing something wrong. He didn't like cats, and the reason he and Xia Lan saved that cat was indeed not pure in his motives... he had selfish reasons.

"What are you avoiding? You're not answering me directly..." Duanmu Cong took a step forward, closing in on Wen Yiming. His overwhelming height difference and imposing physique completely dominated Wen Yiming in terms of presence: "You like Xia Lan?"

For the first time, Wen Yiming saw a kind of irritability and obsession in this brother's eyes.

"Not answering? Or afraid to answer?" Duanmu Cong's tone grew colder and colder, as did his gaze.

These words provoked Wen Yiming: "Yes, I like Xia Lan, and I have nothing to hide from admitting it!"

"Hehe, very good!" Duanmu Cong suddenly laughed loudly, ripped off his tie, and began to unleash a flurry of punches on Wen Yiming. Sure enough, Wen Shiyu was telling the truth. Because he wanted to steal someone else's love, he resorted to underhanded tactics and tripped them up. What a scoundrel, Wen Yiming! I treated you like a good brother!

Wen Yiming was forced to retreat repeatedly, his face covered in injuries, blood seeping from his mouth and nose. He became enraged, bent down and grabbed Duanmu Cong around the waist, slamming his head against him until the two fell to the ground and began to wrestle.

When Lu He and Xia Lan arrived at the police station, the two of them were squatting on the ground, bruised and battered, being reprimanded.

Wen Yiming dared not let his parents know, so he could only beg Wen Shiyu. Duanmu Cong also dared not let his family know about the fight, nor did he dare to ask the other assistants in the company for fear of being reported. He could only shamelessly beg Xia Lan.

"I'm so sorry, officers, for causing you trouble." Lu He bowed and apologized to the police officer while deliberately trying to annoy Wen Yiming: "My brother has some mental issues. He definitely didn't mean to disturb the peace. Yes, yes, he had a brain injury from a fever when he was little... Okay, okay, you're right. We'll take him home now..."

Xia Lan, standing to the side, also nodded and bowed, saying apologetic things: "Yes, yes, I'm sorry, um, I'm the assistant, he's my boss, yes, yes, it's all a misunderstanding..."

After giving them a verbal warning and a fine, the police said, "You're all grown up. What kind of behavior is this, fighting in public? You're dressed like respectable people, so pay attention to your manners! Um, it's nothing serious. If both parties agree to settle, you can go."

“Wait a minute,” Xia Lan suddenly grabbed Duanmu Cong: “When you begged me just now, you said you could grant me one request.”

"Yes, we can make up." Duanmu Cong was about to smile when the wound on the corner of his mouth was pulled, making him wince in pain.

"That's not it..." Xia Lan was speechless: "You approved my resignation!"

"No! I don't agree!" Duanmu Cong raised his voice eight octaves and immediately became agitated again, which aggravated the injury on his face and made it hurt even more.

"Hey! Comrade, please watch your emotions, this is a police station!" The police officer standing to the side was startled by Duanmu Cong's sudden outburst. This man's unstable emotions suggested he might have some serious illness. He quickly stepped in to separate Duanmu Cong and Xia Lan: "Miss, don't be afraid, this is a police station!"

"I'm sorry..." He bowed his head and apologized, then said to Xia Lan in a gentle tone, "I won't approve it, no way."

Seeing that nothing she said would work, Xia Lan decided, "I'm not going to bail him out anymore. Let him be detained..."

"Hey, no, no, I was wrong. Can't we talk things over?" Duanmu Cong grabbed Xia Lan and begged for forgiveness.

Lu He, thoroughly enjoying the spectacle, couldn't resist fanning the flames: "Officer, do you think this company has the right to detain its employees?"

"Of course not, that's illegal!" The police officer immediately glared at Duanmu Cong, his eyes filled with a warning.

Duanmu Cong fell silent, his eyes filled with grievance and sadness. He stood there silently, like a wounded dog.

As expected, the cold expression on Xia Lan's face gradually disappeared, replaced by a look of heartache.

Alright, alright, the little girl's saintly heart is about to overflow again. This male lead is really something, using this trick to gain sympathy again.

"She just doesn't want to be your assistant anymore, it's not like she did anything terribly wrong to you, so who are you trying to impress with this dramatic act? Are you trying to morally blackmail her?" Lu He hit the nail on the head, a master of retorts: "Are you afraid that if she succeeds, you'll feel inferior?"

"No!" Duanmu Cong immediately denied it. He was never afraid of Xia Lan's excellence. He just wanted her by his side. Also, he was embarrassed to admit that he didn't have a position where he could give her a chance to shine.

"If not, then shut up!" Lu He reached into Duanmu Cong's pocket, pulled out his phone, and held it to his nose: "If you love her, let her do what she wants. Make the call and get her resignation approved!"

Duanmu Cong hesitated for a moment, then looked at Xia Lan's aggrieved yet longing expression, sighed, and gave in, taking the phone Lu He handed him...
