Chapter 335 About Pet Ownership (2)
Chapter 335 About Pet Ownership (2)
That was when Lin Chunyi had less than a month left before her high school entrance exam.
I was under a lot of pressure back then, and no matter how much I studied, I felt like I couldn't remember anything. My parents somehow found out about a folk remedy: eating boiled goose eggs could improve memory!
So every few days they would go to their maternal grandparents' house, where they raised geese, and bring back a small plastic bucket of goose eggs to cook for her.
It was probably because my grandparents raised geese so well in the mountains. So the goose eggs were all the size of two fists put together; one was equivalent to almost three chicken eggs!
Boiled goose eggs look similar to boiled chicken eggs, except the egg white is more translucent. However, the fishy smell when eating them is basically the same as that of boiled duck eggs!
During that period, Lin Chunyi was forced to eat a boiled goose egg every morning, along with a bowl of porridge!
You can imagine her fear of eating goose eggs...
But Lin Lanshan felt distressed about eating goose eggs for a different reason.
She brought this on herself!
Seeing that her older sister had such big goose eggs to eat while she only had such small chicken eggs to eat, she insisted that her mother cook one for her every day, regardless of whether her stomach could handle it.
Lin Chunyi wanted to share half with her, but she refused and insisted on eating the whole thing herself, so her mother had no choice but to cook one for her as well.
I don't know what she's thinking. She can't finish her food every morning, but she insists on eating it because of the different sizes. She has to force herself to eat it.
The result was obvious.
In less than a week, Lin Lanshan's stubbornness gave way.
Later, I felt nauseous and wanted to vomit whenever I heard about eating eggs, and I didn't dare to eat eggs for a long time.
Lin Chunyi recalled that memory, shuddered, and said with a grim expression, "I never want to see goose eggs again in my life!"
You can raise geese, but you absolutely must not keep goose eggs!
Lin Lanshan clicked her tongue and said, "Luckily, they're two handsome little male geese that don't lay eggs. Although they're noisy and quacking, they're also incredibly good-looking!"
"And after they've had a bath, they're so fluffy, warm, and light when you hug them, no wonder down jackets exist!"
When Tuanyuan and Ankang first came home, they were still covered in fluffy little fur. Their cries were soft and delicate, and when they were hungry, they would follow them around asking for food.
The two of them liked them no matter how they looked at them, so they gradually raised them from poultry into pets...
But now that I think about it, I don't feel there's anything wrong with it. On the contrary, I'm glad to have them by my side.
What's wrong with keeping chickens and geese as pets? Do they look cheap? Don't they deserve to be called pets?
But when did regulations come into place regarding pet ownership, and what kind of pet it has to be?
Cats and dogs abandoned by humans were once the most popular pets, but they may live a more pitiful life than pigs that are kept in captivity and waiting to be served.
Chickens, ducks, pigs, and other poultry and livestock that are raised as food by most humans but accidentally catch their eye and heart are still lovingly cared for by their owners until they die of old age...
Ultimately, isn't everything about what humans want them to become?
At this point, someone might say,
"Then you don't have to keep them. The animals were living well in the wild, but you people keep them in captivity under the guise of caring for them."
Do you really think they'd be happy if you only fed them when you felt like it? If you love them, give them freedom; if you don't, don't hurt them!
This makes sense.
Unfortunately, most humans have a predatory and controlling nature.
What you want and like should be firmly in your own hands.
My favorite pets are no exception.
But then again, do pets have to be of a certain breed?
Because you like them, or because you happened to meet them, or because they are more suitable for you, whatever the reason... as long as you treat them well, isn't that enough?
When did even the type of pet we keep become a matter of high or low status?
Let's put aside all the grand principles and opinions. It's not someone else's money being spent; if you want to keep a pet, then keep whatever you want!
As long as you can afford to buy them, raise them, and raise them well, you won't harm anyone! Let alone chickens and geese, even if you raise tigers, lions, cockroaches, fleas... so what?
As the old saying goes, don't be so possessive of other people's money, and don't spend all your time thinking about how to manage other people's money.
Why did you buy this? It's not practical.
I don't think it's a good deal for you to buy this.
I think you'd be better off buying that one.
"How could you spend money like that? It's so wasteful!"
"..."
Provided that it does not harm any person, society, or country.
As an outsider, when I encounter things that others do that I simply think are inappropriate, I can only offer appropriate suggestions and friendly reminders.
But to say anything more or to meddle in other people's business is simply a matter of not knowing one's own limitations!
These words apply not only to buying and keeping pets, but to anyone, to buying anything, and to doing anything!
So, back to the topic of the two sisters raising these pets...
Although they treat Tuanyuan Ankang like a pet, feeding it well, bathing it frequently with soap, and often hugging and kissing it when they are in a good mood.
But when they misbehaved and deserved a beating, they did it quite often; and when it was time to be ruthless and leave them to do their own things, the two of them would just abandon them without a second thought...
So, the two of them decided on a whim that it wouldn't be convenient to bring them along, so they discussed it beforehand and left them at their apprentice's house.
The thought of Tuanyuan Ankang and Shadan, who were probably anxiously waiting for their return through the crack in the door, didn't bother Lin Lanshan at all. Instead, she grinned heartlessly.
"Sis, shouldn't we buy them some treats tomorrow to cheer them up?"
Lin Chunyi joked, "Why buy anything? Just pick a couple of grasses they've never seen before by the roadside, and they'll be so happy they'll lose their bearings."
"Haha, then we'll have to get some nice ones; they'll definitely like them more."
The two rode a mule cart, bumping along the uneven, gravelly road, to the village chief's house.
Completely disregarding the fact that Tuanyuan, Ankang, and Shadan were still not used to their new environment, they were not sad or upset at all. Instead, they were causing a ruckus at Yang Yu's house, with geese flying, chickens jumping, and birds squawking.
The three of them were tortured until they felt like a monster had sucked half their souls away...
In the evening, at the dining table in the main room of the village chief's house, the two sisters talked about the purpose of their visit that day.
"What? Xiaoyi, what did you say? Are you serious? You're not kidding me, are you?" Yang Huiyun suddenly shouted, so excited that she almost jumped onto the dining table.
Her screams came so suddenly that everyone else who was eating was startled.
