Chapter 25 Party
Chapter 25 Party
"I heard the King is seriously ill?" Number 3 said.
"Where did you get this information?" Number Two asked with a questioning tone.
“I naturally have my own channels,” Number Three replied.
“I heard that the Third Prince has returned. He was originally defending the frontier, but I heard that he returned without the king’s orders. This is not a good sign.”
"Is war about to break out?"
The middle-aged man who had previously mocked the moon-faced boy spoke up, saying his number was eleven.
Number 11 seemed to have some influence at the gathering; every time he spoke, he attracted the attention of most people.
Lin Tian discovered that the numbers did not indicate the order of entry. Number 11 had clearly joined the party earlier than him, but his number was later than Lin Tian's.
"Can't you talk about something useful? We're in a remote area. Even if something happens in the kingdom, it won't affect us. Can't you talk about something practical?"
A man with a red mask suddenly interrupted. Just like the color of his mask, he also had a very fiery temper, immediately labeling everyone else's conversation as idle chatter.
"What idle chatter? You short-sighted fool! If the king falls and we fall into internal strife, do you think we'll be left out? You idiot!"
Being suddenly interrupted, the middle-aged man was naturally unhappy, and being used to being arrogant at the party, he immediately retorted.
"I'm short-sighted. To put it bluntly, what are you so great about Number 11? So what if you're a mid-level Bronze? To put it nicely, you're senior and experienced. To put it bluntly, you have no talent. You're so old and haven't even reached the upper level. By the time you reach Silver, you might be fifty or sixty years old, right? No, you might not even reach Silver yet, hahaha!"
The red-faced man was naturally quite aggressive; he unleashed a barrage of sarcastic remarks at the middle-aged man, making the middle-aged man's expression under his mask grow increasingly gloomy.
Just as a conflict was about to erupt, the painted-face man, who had previously made a deal with the moon-faced boy, suddenly spoke up.
"Since you say what we're saying is meaningless, then say something meaningful. After all, we're exchanging information, so there's no need to hold back. We're all part of a gathering, and we're all superhumans. If you encounter a tough problem, you can speak up and let everyone help you out."
The moment the painted-face man opened his mouth, he possessed a reassuring magic. Under his words, everyone's thoughts seemed to slow down considerably, and the tense atmosphere gradually subsided.
Lin Tian felt something was off; his mood had inexplicably calmed down, which made him look at the painted-face man.
Meanwhile, the proprietress, who had been completely undisturbed, also noticed something amiss. At that moment, a mechanical sound with an electric current came from the miniature earpiece in her left ear.
"Lily is a disciple of the god of art, don't be disturbed."
Upon hearing this, the proprietress immediately perked up. It seemed that her guess was correct; the painted-face man was indeed using his powers.
Fortunately, the painted-face man did not take any further action. He simply calmed everyone down and then slowly dissipated the power.
The scene changed in just a few dozen seconds. After the red-faced man was calmed down, he began to respond to the painted-face man's questions.
“I heard that there weren’t this many people at the gatherings here before, at most three to five or six people, but now there are more than a dozen people standing here. I don’t believe that everyone is here without something in mind.”
"You all... came for the psionic crystals, didn't you!"
The moment the red-faced man uttered those words, the atmosphere in the room instantly became strange. Some people looked puzzled, some remained calm, and some seemed a little nervous.
"What? You're not saying anything now? I know what you're up to. A single rumor has attracted so many extraordinary beings to this godforsaken place. You even put on a show at every gathering. I thought you could actually share some useful knowledge, but all you've done these past few days is talk nonsense, not getting to the point at all. Either you're genuinely stupid, or you're..."
As the red-faced man spoke, he turned his gaze to the middle-aged man, the man with the painted face, and the elderly man followed by two younger men.
The middle-aged man didn't speak, but judging from his expression, he wasn't in good condition.
The painted-face man, however, showed no outward signs of distress, maintaining his usual confident and composed posture.
The only one of the three who took action was the old man with two younger relatives. He wasn't wearing a mask; he was just wearing a hood and sitting in a corner. After being called out, he was quite nonchalant and took off his hood, revealing an old face.
"Elder Wei!"
When his face was revealed to everyone, a gasp suddenly rang out from the audience. Lin Tian looked at the two people in turn. The one who gasped had a number one pendant around his neck. While waiting, he had overheard the chatter around him. This person seemed to be the organizer of the gathering. He wondered what his relationship was with the landlady.
The man referred to as Elder Vivi wore the number nine badge around his neck. Judging from Number One's exclamation and the reactions of everyone present, this man must be extremely famous in Wells Town.
Unfortunately, Lin Tian was unaware of this, nor did he know what they were exclaiming about.
"Elder Wei is an extremely famous superhuman in Wells Town. He was originally a Silver-rank in his youth, but later fell to the Bronze rank for some reason. Now his strength is probably at the mid-Bronze level."
A soft voice reached his ears, and Lin Tian looked up to find the tavern proprietress standing next to him.
"Mid-level Bronze... Is that impressive? That middle-aged man seems to be one too, but the red-faced guy doesn't seem to take him seriously."
Lin Tian didn't ask her why she answered his question; he'd rather use that time to ask her more questions.
The proprietress chuckled upon hearing Lin Tian's words, then looked at him with amusement.
"Why do you think that someone who hasn't even reached the next level isn't powerful?"
“Most of the people here are just ordinary extraordinary beings, not even at the rank level. And I’m sure at least half of the extraordinary beings in Wells Town are here. There should be around ten rank extraordinary beings in Wells Town, and no more than five of them have reached the middle rank. So why do you think he’s not powerful?”
"Moreover, he used to be a Silver-rank, and his experience and knowledge are much richer than those of everyone present. The extraordinary individuals in Wells Town have all received his guidance."
The proprietress's words immediately drew Lin Tian's attention to the old man. He straightened up, ready to see what the old man would say next.
Elder Vivi scanned the crowd, then, in his aged voice, announced something that shocked everyone present:
“There are indeed psionic minerals here.”
