Chapter 91: News Out
Chapter 91: News Out
On the 10th floor of the War Castle of Holocaust, a student was doing his regular patrol to find a new place to mine.
As he was doing so, he suddenly felt Natural Energy denser than anywhere else.
His brows frowned and he went to investigate. He followed the Natural Energy and tried to track the source.
This part of the dungeon was a place he had come to a lot of times to mine. But he had found nothing before. As he followed the Natural Energy, he ended up in a different place. It seemed like a hallway. He looked around more and started to follow the Natural Energy to where he suspected was the source. His heart was beating faster by the second.
Was he finally about to accomplish his mission that he had been trying for the past three years?
With those thoughts, he moved forward. Excitement, nervousness, and expectations were all slamming together. The ball of light followed him. But the darkness was so thick that even the light couldn’t cut through much.
But before long, he discovered something that made his heart jump. A hole in a wall out of nowhere, with Natural Energy still leaking out slowly.
Ver Kalos rushed to investigate. He laid down on his stomach to see the other side of the hole. He saw there was a cavity behind it.
His expression darkened with a sudden thought. He hoped that it would not be like he thought. He quickly crawled inside.
The sharp edges did nothing to his powerful body, which was tougher than normal Rare Grade items.
Ver noted to check the hole and its surroundings properly.
He stood up and walked over to the pit where the illumination was coming from. He stood there looking at the pickaxed formation and no Dungeon Core.
His mind went blank from shock and unwillingness.
After a while, his expression remained the same when he pulled out a phone from his Spatial Ring.
He dialed a number. The phone rang and the other party picked up at the third ring.
"Your Highness... the Dungeon Core has been stolen."
He said flatly. There was no noise on the other side, but Ver knew that the Prince was just as shocked as him.
But the Prince regained his composure far quicker than Ver himself.
[Find out who it was. Don’t worry about the funding. Just get any possible trails on the thief at all costs. We may have lost the initial, but we must not lose the chance to get our hands on the Dungeon Core. Move before others get hold of the information. Call me immediately when you find anything.]
The prince said with a bit of agitation but slowly calmed down as he talked.
"Yes, Your Highness."
Ver said and hung up. He crawled out again and used his Divine Sense to scan the area. His Divine Sense was at Master Lv.5. A very impressive feat among the third years.
But he was still a slave to someone else’s will.
Ver started to thoroughly investigate. He noticed the Natural Energy concentrated at certain tips of the jagged hole. He took out a scanning device and scanned the hole.
And he found small skin scraps and blood drops. But an insane amount of Natural Energy had plagued them, making them almost indistinguishable.
From the environment inside the cavity, it was clear that there had been a lot of Spirit Water inside.
And from the characteristics he deduced, it had to be of at least Ancient Grade.
His mood soured even more.
The person who robbed this place not only found the arguably most valuable item of the modern era, but also Spirit Water of an insane grade.
But he didn’t let it affect his judgment. He performed a scan throughout the whole area, trying to find even a small bit of presence of Aura, sweat, or anything to track.
But he found that everything had been contaminated by Natural Energy. Even with an Epic Grade Scanner, he couldn’t find anything.
"Damn it."
He cursed under his breath. He did not know how long it had been since the dungeon core had been looted...
"Wait. The monsters haven’t spawned for the previous 8 hours, have they?"
He suddenly remembered that and found a clue. When a Dungeon Core is taken, monsters will stop spawning. And he also noticed how it was getting hard to breathe. He had thought that it was because he was tired, but now he realised it was because there was no Dungeon Core to supply oxygen.
Within a few hours, students won’t be able to come down here without oxygen tanks.
Even more concerning is that, news will travel fast when others notice the lack of oxygen. Most people in the current world lack the knowledge of the Dungeon Core because it is irrelevant to them.
The Dungeonization Era was 9,000 years ago. To normal people, it is a massive time. Many things change in their lives, and details like this get forgotten.
Since they are the ones who keep the internet afloat and moving, many details get buried. So many new generations don’t know what a Dungeon Core does or signifies. So they will spread the news without knowing. But the people who know what a Dungeon Core does will instantly know what happened.
And because of that, he has even less time. Before other factions get hold of this information, he needs to get a lead.
But everything is contaminated by Natural Energy. The person was very meticulous.
Since the person knew about the Dungeon Core, they must be from a faction like him. But he hoped it would be some stray. If not... there will be a bloodbath in the outside world.
But even then, he couldn’t help but feel respect. They knew about a lot of stuff and prepared accordingly. They knew that Diviners need something to Divine specific moments, or even the Seers who can see the past somewhat need something.
He reckoned only the professors can figure out who the person is, but asking them for help is akin to asking for a mountain to move.
They will not only not help, but they will try to get the core instead.
So it was out of the options.
Ver then tried to track the boot prints but even that was scrambled. Each step had been twisted left and right to make it impossible to distinguish what the soles of the shoes looked like.
But regardless of that, he should find a powerful seer to uncover the mystery of this person.
With the information gathered, he once again made a phone call to his boss, informing him of the findings. He requested the Prince to arrange a powerful seer so he could investigate further.
The prince couldn’t help but sigh, but he agreed nonetheless.
And with that set, Ver went outside of the dungeon to get some air and wait for the seer to come.

After Quash left the 10th floor, he was hit with intense imposter syndrome but he took his time. He got his mind back in place by laughing out loud like a maniac. He felt better and went out. He was very glad that he didn’t bring any lighting with him; he could move without alerting anyone.
But he didn’t leave the dungeon. He went up and contacted Gabriella. He urgently told her to find the most trusted and best Diviner and Seer she could find. He briefly told her that he found a Dungeon Core.
And she instantly understood the significance.
And dozens of minutes later, she returned with two professors specializing in Divination and Seering. They were both Vampires.
And seeing that, Quash knew that they will never betray Gabriella because they simply cannot in any sense.
It was because of her bloodline. But she was still too weak to control them so she must have used her grandfather’s connections. She had also brought in a powerful Vampire illusionist and a Memory Manipulator.
But nonetheless, she had brought in everyone that was needed to hide their tracks completely. They went down and started from there, erasing and disrupting any and all the past events a bit using their powers.
They meticulously tracked everything. And when they arrived in front of the five places Quash had bombed, Gabriella couldn’t help but give him side eyes.
But they continued and after a few hours, the whole operation was done. The only thing left was the captain.
Except for Quash, the captain couldn’t see anyone else. Everyone was wrapped in an illusion.
The Memory Manipulator did their thing. They didn’t rewrite the captain’s memory, just rewired them.
Quash had instructed them on the specifics. He wanted to shift the attention of the factions. He knew that the Dungeon Core wasn’t common knowledge, and since he knew, the enemy must think that he is from some faction.
And everything he did points to that. And reframing the captain’s memories is the final nail in the coffin.
Quash also plans to make the transactions he had with the captain appear anonymous with the privileges he has gained with his title.
It is not something groundbreaking. Anyone can buy that privilege with enough ACP.
But he can make sure that the staff keeps their mouths shut.
But for now, he plans to just rest.
The emotional highs and lows have been a bit too much.
