Chapter 230 Don't Go Back
Chapter 230 Don't Go Back
"Hey Xiaxia, I have an event coming up next month, would you like to take it?" Ning Yi asked Yunxia on the other end of the phone.
Yunxia hesitated for a moment, but before she could speak, Zhou Chiye suddenly asked, "Do you want an apple?"
Upon hearing this voice, Ning Yi immediately asked curiously, "Sister Xiaxia, do you have a boyfriend?"
Yunxia quickly grabbed her phone, glared at Zhou Chiye not far away, and mouthed him to shut up.
“No, just a friend,” Yunxia explained.
Upon hearing this answer, Zhou Chiye's expression changed instantly.
“Okay, I can send you the information about that event first, so you can take a look and then make a decision,” Ning Yi said.
Yunxia: "Okay, I'll take a look later."
"By the way, Xiaxia, have you been busy with work lately? How about we get together?" Ning Yi asked.
Not wanting her to suspect anything, Yunxia agreed, "Okay, this weekend?"
“Okay, we’ll talk later.” Ning Yi.
After hanging up the phone, Yunxia put down her phone and saw a man poking an apple with a fork.
"What are you doing?" Yunxia asked.
Zhou Chiye put down his fork: "I didn't do anything, I just felt that this apple wasn't very sweet."
Yunxia watched as he poked holes all over the perfectly good apple: "What did the apple do to you? If you don't want to eat it, just leave it."
Zhou Chiye gripped the fork between his fingers, his knuckles turning white, but his tone was stiff: "Apple didn't provoke me, it's my own fault for being unhappy."
He leaned back on the sofa, crossed his long legs, and his gaze fell on Yunxia's lower abdomen, where her pregnancy wasn't showing yet, but it concealed his and her child.
But she's different; she only says to outsiders that he's a friend, refusing to acknowledge even the slightest relationship with him.
"Friends?" Zhou Chiye chuckled, his voice lower and tinged with a barely perceptible bitterness: "Yunxia, in your eyes, I'm just a friend?"
Yunxia was taken aback by his question and turned her face away: "Otherwise what? We don't have any relationship to begin with."
He stared at Yunxia's profile, his eyes filled with a mixture of grievance and resentment, and his tone was sharper than usual: "Nothing to do with us? Yunxia, put your hand on your heart and tell me, how can we not have anything to do with each other?"
"Yunxia, can't you see my heart? What do I have to do for you to accept me?"
He took a deep breath, his tone softening and becoming more husky: "I know you haven't fully accepted me yet, and you're not ready... but the word 'friend' feels too distant."
Yunxia bit her lip and remained silent.
In fact, she had seen Zhou Chiye's efforts over the past few days, and the baby in her belly was getting bigger every day. Did she really still want to abort it?
She didn't know, but she seemed to be getting more and more reluctant to part with it.
But she always hid her softness inside her hard shell, and still refused to back down: "If you're getting impatient, it's not too late now."
Zhou Chiye: "No patience? I've given you all the patience I have in my life. It's impossible for me to give up. I was just saying that casually. If you want to be friends, then we're friends."
"I'll peel another apple for you." Zhou Chiye stood up.
Yunxia watched Zhou Chiye turn and walk towards the kitchen. His broad shoulders were tense, and even his steps were heavier than usual. The sound of running water and the soft sound of a peeler cutting through an apple came from the kitchen. Yunxia's fingertips curled unconsciously.
Zhou Chiye quickly came out of the kitchen, carrying a white porcelain plate with freshly peeled apples cut into even small pieces.
His face was no longer tense, and his tone returned to its usual gentleness. He handed the plate to Yunxia: "This time I picked a redder one, which is sweeter than the previous one. Try it."
Yunxia reached out and forked a piece, popping it into her mouth. The sweetness spread across her tongue. "I'm going out to eat with my friends this weekend."
Zhou Chiye was stunned for a moment, then looked up at her. Yunxia rarely reported her private life to him.
“Then I’ll take you,” Zhou Chiye replied.
Yunxia did not refuse: "Okay."
……
It's the weekend.
"Xiaxia, you're here." Ning Yi poured Yunxia a glass of red wine.
Yunxia glanced at the wine glass: "I'm not in a good position to drink today."
"Alright then, you really should drink less alcohol." Ning Yi moved the glass of wine aside and poured her a glass of warm water.
Yunxia: "I saw the event you posted, and I also talked to my colleagues in the studio. We can take it."
Ning Yi smiled and said, "That's great. Then we can be together again."
After saying that, Ning Yi moved a plate of food in front of Yun Xia.
Yunxia's nose caught the aroma of the dish first; it was steamed shrimp with garlic and vermicelli, a dish she used to love, the fragrance of garlic mixed with the freshness of seafood.
But today, for some reason, the fragrance that entered her nostrils felt like it had thorns, suddenly making her stomach churn.
Her face paled instantly, and she subconsciously shrank back, secretly pressing her hand on her lower abdomen to suppress the nausea that was rising within her.
Ning Yi didn't notice her odd behavior: "Sister Xiaxia, the shrimp at this restaurant are especially fresh, you should try them."
The smell of garlic grew stronger, and Yunxia could no longer suppress the churning in her stomach. She suddenly stood up, her voice a little hurried: "I'm going to the restroom."
Before he could finish speaking, he rushed to the restroom in the corner of the restaurant.
As soon as she opened the door, she leaned against the sink and started gagging. Although she didn't vomit anything, her face became even paler, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead.
After the nausea subsided, Yunxia leaned against the edge of the table and caught her breath.
She looked at her somewhat haggard face in the mirror, her fingertips gently rubbing her lower abdomen. This was the first time she had experienced such severe morning sickness since becoming pregnant, and she had almost given herself away to Ning Yi just now.
She turned on the tap and splashed cold water on her cheeks, trying to make her complexion look more natural.
Yunxia straightened her collar, took two deep breaths in front of the mirror, and only pushed the door open to go out after confirming that there was nothing wrong with her.
Just as she reached the corner, she saw Ning Yi standing not far away. Upon seeing her come out, she immediately went up to her and said, "Sister Xiaxia, are you alright? You didn't look well just now. Is your stomach upset?"
Yunxia forced herself to remain calm: "It's just an old problem. My eating habits have been irregular lately. It's nothing serious."
After the two returned to the private room, Yunxia didn't touch the plate of garlic shrimp again, and Ningyi also told her to eat more light food.
After finishing her meal, Ning Yi suddenly received a message.
Ji Yan: [Positioning]
Ning Yi: You arrived early? Why did you come directly to Nanzhou?
Ji Yan: Just got off the plane
Ningyi: Why didn't you tell me again? [angry]
Ji Yan: Honey, are you at school?
Ning Yi: No, I just finished eating with Sister Xiaxia and we're getting ready to go back.
Ji Yan: That's perfect, don't go back, I'll come pick you up.
Yunxia teased from the side, "Is your man back?"
Ning Yi smiled and said, "He went back to Nanzhou."
“That’s perfect then. I won’t disturb your date any longer. See you later,” Yunxia said.
Ning Yi nodded: "Be careful on the road."
