Chapter 42 Going to His House for Dinner

Chapter 42 Going to His House for Dinner

After parking the car, Ji Yan turned to Ning Yi and asked, "Are you going back to see your friend later?"

Ning Yi, who was staring at Ji Yan, blinked, thought for two seconds, and then slowly said, "Are you... busy?"

Ji Yan shook his head and replied, "I'm not busy. I have an audition for a role tomorrow afternoon, so I don't have much work these next couple of days."

"You came out alone? How come you happened to be nearby?" Ning Yi asked curiously.

My home isn't far from here.

She pursed her lips, then tentatively asked, "Shall we have dinner together later?"

Ji Yan raised an eyebrow, looked down at him, and said leisurely, "Aren't you with your friends?"

Ning Yi scratched her head, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "Actually, the music festival performances are almost over anyway, so it should be fine."

I'll send them a message.

Then Ning Yi took out her phone and texted Lin Meng: Lin Meng, I just had a hypoglycemic episode and I'm not feeling well. My brother is nearby and he's coming to pick me up.

Ning Yi: So I won't be going back with you guys for a while [smile]

After sending the message, Ning Yi asked Ji Yan with anticipation, "Where are we going to eat later?"

"Would you like to come to my house for lunch? Xu Zhi just bought some groceries at noon," Ji Yan asked.

Go to his house? So soon we can go to his house? Ning Yi felt a surge of joy.

Ning Yi nodded and quickly agreed, "Okay, let's go then."

Then Ji Yan drove Ning Yi back to his home.

As soon as Ji Yan entered, he took a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet for Ning Yi: "You can wear my mom's shoes for now. We haven't bought many slippers here, and the others are too big."

Ning Yi nodded, then changed her shoes and couldn't help but look around Ji Yan's house.

I heard that Ji Yan used to live in a neighboring city, but later moved to Nanzhou due to family reasons.

Ning Yi had only taken two steps when she heard several barks from dogs, and then she saw a fluffy white thing running over.

A small white dog wagged its tail and circled around Ji Yan, rubbed against her legs a couple of times, and then ran to her.

Ning Yi looked delighted and quickly squatted down to pet the dog. She smiled at Ji Yan and said, "This is Fu Tuan! So cute!"

Ji Yan glanced at Ning Yi, who was petting the dog, and replied, "Yes, it's quite lively. I'll go get you a glass of water."

Then Ning Yi teased Fu Tuan as she ran to the sofa, and as she turned around, she bumped into Ji Yan.

She felt that Ji Yan's chest was like a wall. Even though she ran towards him like that, Ji Yan didn't budge an inch and bumped her head so hard it hurt.

"Be careful, why are you running?" Ji Yan held the water steady with his other hand.

Ning Yi winced and clutched her head, then whispered, "I'm sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going."

"Go sit on the sofa," Ji Yan said, placing the water glass on the coffee table.

Then Ji Yan turned around and looked down at her: "Does it hurt a lot?"

Ning Yi rubbed her head, then sat down and shook her head: "It's nothing, it's nothing."

Fu Tuan ran up to Ning Yi again, wagging its tail and barking at her.

Seeing this, Ning picked it up and continued to play with it in her arms.

Ji Yan looked at what was in front of him, a smile appearing in his eyes. Suddenly remembering something, he slowly said, "What kind of dishes would you like to eat? It seems we don't have much food left at home. I can buy some more and bring it over."

"Oh, I'm fine with anything. I'll eat whatever's at home," Ning Yi said with a smile.

Then Ji Yan turned around and went into the kitchen.

After playing for a while, Ningyi felt that it wasn't right for her to just sit there while others were eating.

So she stood up and went to the kitchen to see if there was anything she could help with.

As soon as she arrived at the kitchen door, she saw Ji Yan wearing an apron and stir-frying vegetables in a pot.

It was the first time she had seen Ji Yan wearing an apron, and she couldn't help but take a few more glances.

"Is there anything I can help you with? I'm playing too, anyway," Ning Yi said softly as she walked in.

Ji Yan glanced at her, then said while cooking, "It's okay, you can wait outside. There's cooking smoke in here."

"It's okay, I'll help you." Ning Yi then took the initiative to get the ingredients from the side.

Ning Yi casually picked up a potato and said to him, "How about I cut the potato?"

Before Ji Yan could speak, Ning Yi went to peel potatoes.

Seeing how skillfully she peeled potatoes, Ji Yan's eyes flashed with surprise. He thought Ning Yi was the kind of pampered young lady who wouldn't do these things.

"Then be careful, I'll cut it in a bit," Ji Yan said slowly, staring at her.

In just a few minutes, Ningyi had peeled three potatoes, then washed them and prepared to cut them on the cutting board.

Ji Yan noticed that she was about to pick up the knife and quickly stopped her, saying, "Put it there, I'll cut it."

Ning Yi said with a grin, "It's okay, I can do it."

Ji Yan frowned and then said, "No, you'll cut your hand."

"Don't worry, it's nothing," Ning Yi said, looking at Ji Yan with a look that said, "Please trust me."

Ji Yan was a little worried, feeling that Ning Yi had never done these things before, so he kept glancing at her with concern as he cooked.

To his surprise, Ning Yi chopped the potatoes skillfully and quickly, finishing them in just a few strokes.

Ji Yan was a little stunned, then asked in confusion, "Can you cook?"

Ning Yi answered while tidying up the chopped potatoes, "Yes."

Then she realized that, given her public persona, she shouldn't be able to cook.

Then Ning Yi immediately explained, "Actually, when I was abroad, my grandma taught me some cooking skills because I felt it was better to know how to cook myself."

Ji Yan's eyes flickered, and then he said, "You really always surprise me."

"Huh?" Ning Yi didn't quite understand what he meant.

"It's nothing. You can go out and play for a while after you've finished cutting this. I'll just cook three dishes," Ji Yan said while busy with her work.

After doing all that, Ningyi obediently went to the living room to sit and play on her phone.

She saw that Lin Zhiyu had sent her a message.

Lin Zhiyu: Is it serious?

Lin Zhiyu: How are you now?

Lin Zhiyu: I should have gone out with you back then.

Ning Yi quickly replied to his message.

Ning Yi: It's nothing, it's nothing. Actually, I had a lot of fun today. I'm not feeling well, and I have a recurring problem with low blood sugar.

Lin Zhiyu: It's my fault for not thinking things through.

Ning Yi: It's okay, thank you and Lin Meng for bringing me here today.

Lin Zhiyu: Whatever makes you happy. You can contact me if you want to go out and have fun in the future.

Ning Yi: Okay

after awhile.

"Xiao Yi, come and eat," Ji Yan said, carrying the dishes out.

Upon hearing this, Ning Yi immediately stood up, washed her hands, and prepared to eat.

"It smells so good!" Ning Yi couldn't help but say.

Ji Yan took out two bottles of coconut juice from the refrigerator, and then, as if remembering something, asked Ning Yi, "Can you drink it cold?"

“Sure,” Ning Yi replied.

Then Ji Yan placed the coconut juice in front of Ning Yi.

"This is all we have to drink at home, so please make do with this," Ji Yan said, setting out the bowls and chopsticks.

Then Ji Yan served Ning Yi some rice.
