Chapter 23 Jona Encounters a Scumbag
Chapter 23 Jona Encounters a Scumbag
As the school term progressed, they gradually had a few more classes.
They noticed that Jona had been spending a lot of time putting on makeup these days, and seemed to be in a good mood.
They guessed that Jona was probably in a relationship.
Although Jona usually takes care of her appearance, she's been a bit too meticulous lately, even proactively asking others which outfit looks good and whether it matches their clothes...
And on one occasion, they discovered that when Jona returned to her dorm, her lipstick had been smudged off, and there was a faint red tinge around her lips—just like after a kiss.
However, since Jona didn't bring it up herself, they weren't in a position to pry.
One evening, on their way back to the dormitory after shopping at the supermarket, Ning Yi and Li Man vaguely saw a familiar figure in the parking lot not far away.
"Hey, Ning Yi, look, isn't that Nana?" Li Man patted Ning Yi's shoulder, then kept glancing in that direction.
Ning Yi also looked in that direction.
The girl did look a lot like Jona; she was facing away from them.
There was a man standing in front of Jona.
Li Man was already curious about Qiao Na's love life, so she took Ning Yi's hand and carefully moved forward a few steps, hiding behind a tree to see what the guy looked like.
Who knew that the next second, Jona slapped the man and then angrily said something to him.
The man who was hit sneered, then said something to Jona with an angry expression. Jona then reached out to hit him again, but the man grabbed her hand.
The man shook off Jona's hand and shoved her hard, causing Jona to lose her balance.
Ning Yi and Li Man exchanged a shocked glance, then rushed forward together, pulling Qiao Na back to protect her.
"How can you, a grown man, lay a hand on a woman?" Li Man said angrily to the man.
The man looked at them disdainfully and said, "Who are you? Mind your own business."
Seeing the man's behavior, Ning Yi's anger flared up: "We're Nana's friends. If we don't care about her affairs, who will?"
The man continued impatiently, "Please get this straight, I'm the one who's clinging to me even though I want to leave. I'm already fed up with her."
“Men like you are everywhere. It’s a miracle that Nana even noticed you,” Ning Yi glared at him and continued.
The man was clearly angry, and looked ready to rush forward and attack.
Jona, who was being protected behind them, immediately stepped forward and said coldly, "If you dare to lay a hand on us, you won't be leaving Nanjing University tonight."
The man narrowed his eyes, nodded, and laughed angrily, "Fine, fine, I can't afford to mess with you, I'll leave."
The man knew Jona's family background and guessed that her friends wouldn't be much worse off either. He just wanted to break up and didn't want to cause any big trouble.
The man then walked to his car parked not far away and drove off.
After the man left, Jona seemed to break down and took two steps back, looking somewhat powerless.
Li Man and Ning Yi quickly caught Qiao Na.
"Nana, are you alright..." Li Man asked worriedly.
Jona's eyes were glistening with tears, and suddenly she couldn't hold back any longer and let the tears fall.
Ning Yi and Li Man immediately panicked.
Ning Yi said softly, "Nana, don't cry, we're here."
“Yes, yes, don’t cry, tell us what’s wrong,” Li Man comforted her from the side.
Jona wiped away her tears, sniffed, then shook her head and said in a trembling voice, "I'm fine, let's talk about it when we get back."
Perhaps out of pride, Jona didn't want to cry in public.
Then, Jona seemed distracted the whole way, which worried the two of them.
They returned to the dormitory, where An Xiaonuo was sitting at the table reading a book. Hearing the noise, she looked over and saw that Qiao Na looked heartbroken, while Ning Yi and Li Man next to her also had complicated expressions.
An Xiaonuo was a little confused. She slowly stood up and asked cautiously, "What... happened to you?"
Li Man secretly gave An Xiaonuo a wink.
Jona seemed possessed, and walked blankly to her chair. After two, three, four seconds, she suddenly burst into tears.
This was also the first time they had seen Jona like this.
The three of them rushed over and kept comforting Jona.
After crying for an unknown amount of time, Jona was so exhausted that her nose was red from wiping it.
She didn't seem like the proud and aloof Jona she usually was.
"It's just a breakup, Nana, don't be sad over such a jerk," Li Man said gently, patting Qiao Na's back.
Qiao Na shook her head, looking aggrieved: "I thought Fang Ziyi genuinely liked me, but I never imagined his gentleness and thoughtfulness were all an act, and his supposed shared interests were just a pretense."
Jona looked at them and continued sadly, "Until I saw him going out drinking with another woman, and they were even hugging each other, what right did he have? We haven't even broken up yet, what right does he have?"
The more Jona talked, the angrier she became.
Ning Yi quickly comforted Qiao Na, saying softly, "It's not worth shedding a single tear for this kind of scumbag. Who is our Qiao Na? She can have any kind of man she wants. Just hope he doesn't end up crying and regretting it so much that he can't sleep at night."
Jona sniffed and nodded, then continued, "I know... but this is my first time dating, and I thought it would be a wonderful memory."
As she spoke, Jona couldn't help but shed tears again.
An Xiaonuo hurriedly grabbed a napkin and handed it to Qiao Na.
Jona continued, talking to herself, "He doesn't like art exhibitions at all. He doesn't understand them at all. In the beginning, in order to get closer to me and win my favor, he knew I was going to an art exhibition, so he collected information in advance, memorized it, and recited it to me, making me mistakenly believe that he was like me."
"I'm such an idiot, being fooled by this kind of person. If I hadn't noticed he was acting strangely these past few days, and hadn't gone through his phone to find out he was drinking with other women, and there were even photos his brother took of Fang Ziyi hugging other women—I found them all on his phone."
Jona shook her head sadly, her face full of regret.
"That scumbag, I hope he gets castrated soon. He's giving up a fancy meal to eat garbage from the roadside. He's shameless," Li Man said angrily as she listened to this.
"Am I embarrassing like this?" Jona's makeup was smudged from crying, her hair was a few strands messy, and her eyes had a complicated look on them.
Ning Yi denied it, saying, "How could that be? Everyone has sad and upset moments. It's okay, Nana. We just don't want bad people. Besides, your father loves you so much. If he knew his precious daughter was so sad, he would be heartbroken."
Jona's mother passed away when she was very young, but Jona's father never remarried; he truly loved Jona.
Upon hearing this, Jona's eyes flickered, and after a moment of silence, she slowly said, "Thank you all, I really feel much better."
Li Man gave Qiao Na a big hug and said with a smile, "It's even better that you can think positively. Don't be sad. The Miss Qiao who always looked so disdainful was much prettier."
Jona couldn't help but laugh out loud.
When everyone saw Jona smile, they smiled too.
Jona's face returned to its usual haughty expression: "Hmph, he's just a man, I won't really fall for him."
