Chapter 56 The Prince is Busy with Government Affairs
Chapter 56 The Prince is Busy with Government Affairs
That morning, just as the sun was filtering in through the cracks in the window, Yunxi slowly woke up. She rubbed her eyes and turned to look. The bed beside her was already empty.
She knew in her heart that the prince must have gotten up early again to deal with the pile of government affairs.
Yunxi quickly got up, washed herself, and called her maid Cui'er in: "Cui'er, come and help me dress up."
Cui'er ran in and combed Yunxi's hair. Yunxi asked softly, "Cui'er, when did the prince go back to his room to rest last night?"
Cui Er kept working while she replied, "Princess, the prince came home very late last night. You looked like you were fast asleep. His footsteps were as light as a cat's, for fear of waking you."
After hearing this, Yunxi sighed slightly, frowned, and her eyes were full of heartache for the prince.
After breakfast, Yunxi thought about going to the study to see the prince. She hurriedly walked, and before she even reached the study, she heard the prince talking to his subordinates from inside.
Yunxi slowed down her pace and arrived at the study door. Just as she was about to raise her hand to knock, she heard the prince shout, "If you can't handle this, you'll all pack up and leave!"
The sound made Yunxi's hands tremble.
Then I heard the prince say: "Don't make excuses to me, I only look at the results!"
At this time, a subordinate replied timidly: "Your Majesty, we will do our best."
"Try your best? Humph, what I want is an immediate solution, not to listen to your empty talk!" The prince slammed the table angrily.
Yunxi stood outside the door, hesitating whether to go in.
"This matter must be resolved as soon as possible and cannot be delayed!" The prince's voice was serious.
Yunxi stood at the door, hesitated for a moment, and finally did not go in to disturb them.
She bit her lip lightly, and her rosy lips turned a slightly adorable pale color under the touch of her white teeth.
Her slender fingers tugged at the corner of her clothes unconsciously, and her body trembled slightly, as if she was experiencing some inner conflict.
Then, she slowly turned around, and the hem of her skirt drew a lonely arc in the air.
She walked towards the garden, her steps light and fluttery, as if she had lost her soul. Along the way, her pretty face was frowned, and her mind was full of the prince's exhausted face.
The prince's once handsome face has lost its former charm due to the heavy workload, his eye sockets are sunken, and stubble has appeared.
In the garden, flowers of all colors competed with each other for beauty, red like fire, pink like clouds, white like snow. But Yunxi had no intention of appreciating them, she just stared at the flowers blankly.
"Princess, look how beautiful the flowers are blooming." The maid beside her said excitedly. The little maid looked only about fourteen or fifteen years old, with a rosy face and a pair of big eyes that showed cleverness.
Yunxi simply responded lightly: "Yeah." The voice was as light as falling petals.
Back in the room, Yunxi sat down on a chair, panting slightly, and instructed Cui'er, "Cui'er, go prepare some snacks. I want the kind that the prince likes."
Cui'er quickly agreed and turned around to get busy.
When she came to the study again, before she even got close, she heard the prince's low and majestic voice: "This matter must be resolved as soon as possible, without any delay!"
Yunxi approached quietly and saw that the prince was discussing important matters with several ministers. His brows were tightly furrowed, twisted into a big knot, and a layer of fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
Yunxi quickly signaled the servants to put the snacks aside, and then she tiptoed out, fearing that any noise would disturb them.
At noon, Yunxi personally went to the kitchen to cook a few dishes that the prince liked. She wore an apron and was busy in the kitchen. Beads of sweat dripped down her forehead, but she didn't bother to wipe them off.
After cooking, she asked the servants to bring the meal to the study.
In the afternoon, Yunxi sat by the window, embroidering a handkerchief. The needle moved back and forth in her hand, pricking her fingers several times, but she seemed not to feel the pain.
"Princess, why don't you go and have a rest?" Cui'er looked at him with distress and couldn't help but say.
Yunxi shook her head and said, "I'm not tired." There was a hint of stubbornness in her voice.
In the evening, the prince finally emerged from his study, his figure shaky, his face weary, his eyes bloodshot.
Yunxi hurried over and asked with concern, "Your Highness, have you had dinner yet?"
The prince held Yunxi's hands, which were warm and strong: "Not yet."
Yunxi had the food served and dined with the prince.
"Your Highness, please don't overwork yourself. Your health is very important," Yunxi said. Her brows furrowed slightly, her eyes filled with worry, and she gently placed her hands on the Prince's sleeves.
The prince nodded: "I know, but there are so many government affairs that I have to worry about them." As he spoke, he raised his hand and rubbed his eyebrows, and the fatigue on his face could not be concealed.
After dinner, the prince returned to his study. Yunxi silently put a cloak on him. Her movements were gentle, as if she was afraid of hurting him.
Yunxi's gaze followed the prince until the figure disappeared at the door of the study.
"Yunxi, I'm sorry to have worried you," the prince said. There was a hint of helplessness and guilt in his voice.
Yunxi smiled slightly: "Your Highness, just go and do your work. I will take care of myself." There was a hint of loneliness in her smile, but she tried hard to make herself appear strong.
As the days passed, the prince was still busy with government affairs.
On this day, Yunxi went to the temple to pray for the prince. She was wearing plain clothes and only a simple hairpin in her hair.
Incense curled in the temple. Yunxi walked into the main hall with steady steps, knelt devoutly before the Buddha statue, clasped her hands together, and prayed silently in her heart: "May the prince be safe and healthy and everything goes well."
Her eyes were firm and focused, and her lips trembled slightly.
On the way back from the temple, Yunxi saw someone selling calligraphy and paintings on the street. Remembering that the prince loved calligraphy and painting, she bought a few.
She selected carefully, sometimes picking up a painting to look at it carefully, sometimes putting it down, and finally chose a few paintings that she thought the prince would like.
Back at the mansion, Yunxi took the calligraphy and paintings to the study, only to find the prince asleep at his desk. She tiptoed over, afraid to make any noise.
Yunxi's steps were as light as a cat's, and her eyes were full of heartache.
She picked up the cloak beside her and gently covered the prince with it. The cloak fell slowly and gently, as if she were handling a rare treasure.
At this time, the prince woke up.
"Yunxi, you're here." The prince's voice was hoarse. He raised his head, his eyes still a little hazy.
Yunxi said with concern: "Prince, please rest for a while." There was a hint of pleading in her voice and tears flashed in her eyes.
The prince looked at Yunxi, a touch of emotion flashed in his eyes, but he still shook his head: "There are still many matters waiting to be dealt with."
Yunxi stopped trying to persuade him, but just silently ground ink for the prince.
She leaned forward slightly, her sleeves brushing the table, her eyes fixed on the ink stick, her slender fingers tightly gripping the ink stick, grinding it slowly and forcefully in circles.
Her brows were slightly furrowed, revealing a bit of heartache, and she sighed softly from time to time.
As the night deepened, Yunxi looked at the busy figure of the prince and secretly decided in her heart that she must take good care of the prince in life so that he would have no worries.
A few days later, Yunxi learned that the prince had not had a good rest for several days because of a difficult case.
Her pretty face was filled with worry, and she hurried to the kitchen. "Stew that old hen, add some ginseng slices, and give it to the prince to nourish his body."
Yunxi anxiously instructed the cook. After the soup was ready, Yunxi carefully carried it and hurried to the study.
"Your Highness, please drink some soup first." Yunxi said, her voice soft and concerned.
The prince put down the documents in his hand, took the bowl of soup and drank it all in one gulp.
"Yunxi, it's great to have you here." The prince said with a relieved smile on his face.
Yunxi smiled slightly: "As long as the prince is well, I will be at ease."
After saying that, Yunxi swiftly tidied up the messy documents on the table and poured the prince a cup of hot tea.
As she worked, she murmured softly, "Your Highness, no matter how important this case is, you must take care of yourself."
The prince just shook his head helplessly after hearing this and continued to work on the documents. Yunxi said nothing more and just stood quietly by, ready to serve the prince at any time.
Although the prince is busy with government affairs, Yunxi always supports him silently and gives him strength and warmth in her own way.
