Chapter 13 The Prince Visits
Chapter 13 The Prince Visits
That day, Yunxi was busy drying herbs in her yard. The sunlight poured down unobstructed, outlining her slender figure with exceptional clarity.
Suddenly, there was a gentle knock on the gate. Yunxi stopped what she was doing, frowned, and walked towards the gate with a puzzled look on her face.
"Who is it?" Yunxi asked softly, with a hint of curiosity in her voice.
"It's me." A familiar and low voice came from outside the door. The voice was steady and carried unquestionable majesty.
Yunxi's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly quickened her pace, reaching out to open the gate. She saw the prince dressed in a moon-white brocade robe, made of high-quality material, shimmering softly in the sunlight.
The prince stood tall and straight like a pine tree, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. The corners of his mouth were slightly raised, and he was looking at her with a smile.
"Your Highness, why are you here?" Yunxi hurriedly bowed slightly, with her head lowered and her hands unconsciously tugging at the corners of her clothes.
The prince strode into the courtyard, his eyes sweeping around. "I heard you've had a lot of trouble in the Marquis' Mansion recently. I'm worried about you, so I came to visit you."
As he spoke, he patted Yunxi's shoulder lightly.
Yunxi raised her head, a touch of emotion flashed in her eyes, "I'm sorry to trouble you, Your Highness." After saying that, she led the prince into the house.
Yunxi led the prince into the house, "Thank you for your concern, Your Highness."
The furnishings in the room were simple, but the prince didn't mind at all. He sat down casually and even crossed his legs.
Yunxi hurriedly prepared tea for the prince, and as she did so, she said somewhat awkwardly, "Prince, this tea is crude, please don't despise it."
The prince took the teacup, tilted his head back and took a sip, then said with a hearty smile, "It doesn't matter. As long as it's brewed by you, it's good tea."
Yunxi's cheeks suddenly turned red like a ripe apple. She lowered her head and muttered softly, "Your Highness is joking."
The two sat facing each other, and for a moment the room was strangely quiet. The prince frowned, then broke the silence first, looking at Yunxi with a firm gaze and saying, "Yunxi, you don't have to worry too much about the affairs of the Marquis' Mansion. I will protect you well."
Upon hearing this, Yunxi looked up at the prince, her eyes filled with gratitude, her voice trembling slightly: "Your Highness, I have such great kindness. Yunxi has no way of repaying you."
The prince smiled slightly, waved his hand, and said softly: "Between you and me, there is no need to thank me."
At this moment, Yunxi's eyes accidentally swept across the prince's cuffs, and she couldn't help but exclaimed: "Prince, your cuffs..."
The prince glanced down indifferently and said nonchalantly, "Marching and fighting are inevitable."
Yunxi said nothing more, bit her lip, stood up and said, "Your Highness, let me mend it for you."
The prince nodded and said in a steady voice, "Thank you."
Yunxi quickly fetched her needle and thread and sat down next to the prince. She held her sleeve with one hand and the needle and thread with the other, her expression focused, as if she were carving a rare treasure.
The prince did not say anything, just looked at her quietly, his eyes full of tenderness, as if water could drip out of them.
Fine beads of sweat gradually appeared on Yunxi's forehead. She didn't bother to wipe them off and kept moving her hands.
Seeing this, the prince reached out to wipe the sweat off her face, but he pulled his hand back halfway.
Yunxi's sewing movements were fast and steady, the needle and thread flying up and down in her hands. As the prince watched, the corners of his mouth unconsciously raised, and his eyes never left Yunxi.
"Okay, Your Highness." Yunxi breathed a sigh of relief, a satisfied smile on her face.
After the sewing was completed, Yunxi looked up and met the prince's gaze. Their faces instantly came close and the atmosphere became a little ambiguous.
"Yunxi..." the prince called softly.
The prince's eyes were filled with concern, his gaze fixed firmly on Yunxi. He was dressed in a brocade robe, with a white jade belt around his waist. He stood tall, his sword-like brows slightly furrowed, revealing an irresistible majesty.
"Your Highness..." Yunxi's heart was pounding. She lowered her eyes, clutching the hem of her clothes with both hands, looking like a frightened little rabbit.
Yunxi was born delicate, and now her face was slightly red, which made her look even more charming.
Just then, there was a noise outside.
"Yunxi, come out here!" It turned out to be the daughter of the Marquis's family. The voice was so sharp and piercing that it hurt people's ears.
Yunxi frowned, "What's going on?" Her brows were tightly furrowed, and her eyes were full of confusion and helplessness.
The prince stood up and said, "I will accompany you to take a look." As he said that, the prince strode forward with steady and powerful steps.
When the two of them arrived in the courtyard, the daughter of the Marquisate was startled when she saw the prince, and then she said, "Prince, why are you here?"
The daughter of the marquis was dressed in silk and satin, with pearls and jade on her head, and her face was thickly powdered. Her eyes were wide open, full of jealousy and dissatisfaction.
The prince's face darkened, "What's wrong with me coming to visit Yunxi?" The prince's voice was cold, like the chill wind in winter, making people shudder.
The daughter of the Marquisate bit her lip and said, "Your Highness, Yunxi is just a concubine's daughter of the Marquisate. She is of low status and not worthy of you."
As she spoke, she stamped her feet, and the powder on her face shook.
Yunxi said angrily, "Sister, don't talk nonsense." Yunxi's eyes widened and her chest rose and fell.
The prince said in a cold voice: "Yunxi is kind and intelligent. In my heart, no one can compare to her." The prince put his hands behind his back and looked at the daughter of the marquis with a firm gaze.
The daughter of the Marquis's family had an ugly expression on her face, "Prince, you..." Her voice trembled and her facial expression became distorted.
"That's enough!" the prince shouted, "Stop making trouble here." The prince's voice was deafening, and the daughter of the marquis took two steps back in fright.
The daughter of the Marquis's mansion glared at Yunxi with hatred, then turned and left. As she left, her steps stumbled and she almost fell.
Yunxi looked at the prince with some concern, "Prince, I'm afraid it will bring you trouble." Yunxi's eyes were full of worry and his brows were still furrowed.
The prince held Yunxi's hand and said, "Don't be afraid. I am not afraid."
Yunxi felt warm in her heart and nodded slightly.
The prince's eyes were gentle, with a smile on his lips, and he talked to Yunxi in a private manner.
When the prince spoke, his voice was neither too high nor too low, steady and powerful, and every word he said was like the warm spring sunshine shining into Yunxi's heart.
After saying this, the prince stood up, straightened his clothes, and walked out.
Yunxi just stared at the prince's departing back without blinking. The reluctance in her heart was like a tangled mess that she couldn't sort out.
From that day on, Yunxi thought of the prince when she ate and when she slept, and the prince's appearance was always in her mind.
The prince also did not forget Yunxi, and every now and then he would send people to give Yunxi some new and interesting things.
On this day, Yunxi was quietly reading in her room. The sunlight filtered through the window, casting a gentle light on her.
Suddenly, I heard hurried footsteps outside, "thump thump thump", getting closer and closer.
"Miss Yunxi, the prince has sent someone to deliver something." A maidservant shouted at the top of her voice. The voice was so sharp and bright that Yunxi was so startled that the book in her hand almost fell to the ground.
Upon hearing this, Yunxi quickly put down his book and walked out in two steps. He saw several strong servants carrying several large boxes, panting heavily, standing in the middle of the yard.
"This is given to you by the prince." The leading servant said as he wiped the sweat off his forehead with his hand.
Yunxi opened her eyes wide, full of curiosity, and opened the box. Wow, it was filled with precious jewels and silks.
The jewels sparkled in the sunlight, dazzling people's eyes; the silks and satins were even more colorful, smooth and delicate, and it was obvious at first glance that they were not ordinary items.
"Your Highness, what are you doing..." Yunxi was so shocked that she covered her mouth, her eyes wide open, and she didn't know what to say for a moment.
The servant grinned and said, "The prince said these are rewards for the young lady."
After hearing this, Yunxi felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey. "Thank you, Your Majesty, for me."
After the servants left, Yunxi couldn't wait to pick up a piece of clothing and try it on herself.
The smile on her face was like a blooming flower, and she couldn't stop herself from smiling. She kept muttering, "The prince is so good to me, so good."
Just like that, a few days later, the prince came to the marquis's mansion again in a swaggering manner.
When Yunxi heard that the prince was coming, she didn't even bother to put on her shoes and ran out, shouting, "Prince, Prince."
When she came up to him, her face flushed with joy, "Prince, you are here."
The prince looked at her, "Yunxi, how are you these days?"
Yunxi nodded, "Everything is fine, thank you for your concern, Your Highness."
The two of them strolled slowly side by side in the courtyard. The prince was dressed in brocade clothes, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. His upright posture exuded majesty. He turned his head to look at Yunxi and said softly, "Yunxi, I want to take you out for a walk."
Yunxi's big, watery eyes suddenly lit up like stars. She jumped in surprise and unconsciously grabbed the prince's sleeve with both hands, "Really?"
The prince smiled slightly, and that smile was like a spring breeze, "Of course it is true."
After saying this, the prince took Yunxi's hand and strode out of the mansion. Once they arrived at the streets of the capital, Yunxi was like a happy little rabbit, looking here and there.
On this side, there was a man selling cloth, and on the other side, there was a man performing by beating a gong. Her head kept turning back and forth.
The prince looked at her excited and curious expression, and the smile on his lips never disappeared. "Yunxi, do you like it here?"
The prince leaned close to Yunxi's ear and asked.
Yunxi nodded hurriedly, a bright smile on her face, "I like it, it's so lively here."
As she walked, Yunxi suddenly stopped and stared at a vendor selling candied haws.
The vendor’s candied haws were bright red and covered with a layer of shiny sugar coating, which made people very greedy just by looking at them.
Seeing her like this, the prince laughed, took out some silver from his pocket, bought a string and handed it to her, "Here."
Yunxi took the candied haws and took a small bite. Then her eyes narrowed into slits, "It's so sweet."
After saying that, he started to bite again, his cheeks puffed up like a little squirrel.
The two of them strolled along the way, Yunxi touching this little gadget and tasting that snack, feeling extremely happy.
The prince did not mind the trouble and followed behind her, protecting her and preventing others from crowding or bumping into her.
Before they knew it, the sun was setting and its golden afterglow was cast on them.
The prince escorted Yunxi back to the mansion. When they reached the door, he straightened Yunxi's hair that had been messed up by the wind and said softly, "Yunxi, I'll come pick you up after I finish some things."
Yunxi lowered her head shyly, her cheeks flushed, and nodded gently, "Okay, Your Highness."
Since then, Yunxi and the prince's relationship has become deeper and deeper.
