Chapter 700 - 689: Resolute Decision (Part 2)
When Liu Yunpeng appeared again at the base of the office building, the two Guards didn’t bother to ask any more questions. They just acted as if they hadn’t seen the former, keeping their heads down and drawing circles on the ground with their feet.
Seeing the two in such a state, Liu Yunpeng naturally couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge them. He was feeling a bit overwhelmed now, partly because he wasn’t confident about getting out of the Factory smoothly and partly because the news that the external team hadn’t returned completely disrupted his original plan.
On a high building not far away, a pair of eyes were intently watching everything happening below.
He Lei got up much earlier than Liu Yunpeng today, or it could be said that he stayed up all night.
It’s no wonder—today’s events are exceptionally crucial for him. If he fails, he might face severe punishment, and maybe even risk his life.
A few minutes ago, when Liu Yunpeng first appeared outside the office building, He Lei felt a slight relief. He was worried that Liu Yunpeng, the brat, would back out or get cold feet at the last minute or even oversleep. But luckily, the former didn’t mess up this time.
But He Lei hadn’t even breathed a sigh of relief for five minutes before Liu Yunpeng inexplicably turned back into the office building after saying a few words to the Guards. This left He Lei baffled.
It’s no wonder—currently, He Lei knows very little about the Factory’s matters. In the past, he could rely on his authority and rank to pry information from his subordinates, but recently, for some reason, Huang Yong instilled them with some thoughts. In short, whenever he tried to inquire about the Factory’s situation, all he got were useless evasions.
So there’s no way he could know about the specifics regarding the external team. As a result, when he laid out the action plan for Liu Yunpeng, he made the wrong judgment from the beginning.
Time ticked away second by second, and in reality, Liu Yunpeng wasn’t in the room for long, but during those brief ten or so minutes, it felt like an eternity to He Lei.
Every second felt like a year. Oh no, it should be described as each second felt like a year to accurately reflect his state of mind at the time.
It’s not that he didn’t think about going out to find Liu Yunpeng to clarify things, but doing so would expose himself. If Huang Yong’s subordinates saw him meeting with Liu Yunpeng at this time, it’s inevitable that they would become suspicious and undoubtedly report it to Huang Yong. If that happened, the plan would be preemptively declared a failure.
Waiting was the only option left for He Lei.
The cigarette tip glowed like a ghostly fire, quickly nearing his lips in the dark room. A cigarette was finished in no time amidst He Lei’s anxious state. And just then, that same Liu Yunpeng, who had been causing him anxiety, finally walked out of the office building again.
"Ah, what is that brat trying to pull?" He Lei’s eyes widened in surprise as Liu Yunpeng approached a BMW sports car in his view, opened the door, and got in.
The last time he drove this sports car was more than half a month ago when Liu Yunpeng loved driving it to pick up women for flings and enjoy life.
The old year was about to pass, and the new year was about to begin.
Liu Yunpeng couldn’t help but reminisce about his past hedonistic life.
Sighing deeply, Liu Yunpeng snapped back to reality from his chaotic thoughts.
He understood that from this moment on, he had to race against time. Every minute, every second was exceedingly precious; any waste meant that his subordinates might report him to Huang Yong, rendering him unable to leave the Factory.
The engine roar unique to sports cars was incredibly pleasing, but the noise immediately attracted the attention of everyone on duty at the Factory.
The only thing to be thankful for was the villa’s decent soundproofing. Otherwise, with such noise, there would be no need for anyone to report it—Huang Yong and Liu Fugui upstairs would hear it clearly.
He Lei looked in disbelief at the BMW sports car already started at the base of the building, thinking that Liu Yunpeng couldn’t possibly be planning to drive out by himself, damn it, as if this was just for show, driving a sports car.
Unaware of the truth, He Lei simply thought Liu Yunpeng’s actions were entirely to show off his status.
Hell, do you really think you can drive out the gate in a sports car? Damn it, even if you plan to drive out yourself, at least choose a more low-key car. But this...
He Lei really wanted to go downstairs and smack Liu Yunpeng twice and ask him what on earth he was thinking, but unfortunately, the current situation no longer allowed him to do so. The only one to blame is himself for not explaining things clearly beforehand.
Damn, come what may, He Lei had to just pray that heaven would allow Liu Yunpeng to leave the Factory smoothly. Otherwise, today would be the darkest day for him.
"Young Master, what are you up to?" The guards at the gate seemed a bit confused; they didn’t understand what role this young master was playing now.
Liu Yunpeng suppressed his inner tension and feigned calmness, saying, "Damn it, don’t you have eyes? I’m driving a car. Do I need to explain what I’m doing? Look, this is Mr. Liu’s pass. I have business to attend to outside!"
The subordinate hesitantly took the pass, glanced at it, and indeed saw the authorization to let him through. But for this very reason, they became even more suspicious.
These two weren’t just anybody; they were the same pair who participated in the ’Li Huiru Disappearance’ operation a few days ago, so they had a deep impression of the forged pass back then.
And now, with Liu Yunpeng holding this one, there was no reason for them not to suspect that he was doing the same, and his purpose for leaving might very well be to find the missing Li Huiru.
The two subordinates exchanged a glance, clearly seeing the worry in each other’s eyes. If they let Liu Yunpeng walk out of here today, the consequences for them would be dire. They had to stall him and notify Huang Yong. The current situation was beyond what they could handle as minor characters.
Liu Yunpeng’s eyes never left the two of them. The urgency of time made him increasingly irritable: "Damn it, what’s taking so long? Aren’t you going to open the gate for me? If I get delayed and can’t get things done, can you bear the responsibility?"
"Oh, no, no, Young Master, you don’t know. Mr. Liu has rules that all external affairs need to be reported to him first, so I’ll just report it. It won’t take long," the subordinate said with a trembling voice, putting on a forced smile.
But this explanation set Liu Yunpeng off: "Bullshit. How the hell did Li Huiru get out back then? Did you report it? Is the pass I gave you blank paper? Are you implying mine is fake?"
"No... no... Young Master, I didn’t mean that..."
"Didn’t mean it? If that’s not what you meant, why won’t you open the gate?" (To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote, your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
