Chapter 631 Preparing Gifts
Chapter 631 Preparing Gifts
Seeing the pendant, Britney couldn’t help but stare. "Is this piece of junk what you’re giving Guo’er?" she asked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"What piece of junk? This is a real treasure, way better than that Jade Buddha of yours," Lin Kuang said irritably.
"Really? I’m not that well-read, so don’t you try to fool me!" Britney said doubtfully. "A small, mottled pendant like this is supposed to be more valuable than my Jade Buddha? I just don’t believe it."
"Heh, you’d better believe it. When it comes to jade, size isn’t everything. Purity and origin are what matter," Lin Kuang said with a smug smile, toying with the mottled jade in his hand.
"Yeah, right. But this pendant is obviously full of impurities," Britney said skeptically. "That has nothing to do with being pure, does it?"
"Heh, that’s what you don’t understand. The mottled look is just a surface layer. Once I grind it away, you’ll see this pendant’s true form," Lin Kuang said with a mischievous grin.
Britney was still skeptical. "Then do it. Get rid of the outer layer and let me see."
"Right now. Watch closely." As he spoke, Lin Kuang placed the mottled jade pendant in his palm. A moment later, a flicker of True Qi emanated from his hand, enveloping the pendant.
Britney watched intently, her eyes wide.
After just a few minutes, the True Qi around Lin Kuang’s hand dispersed, revealing the jade pendant once again.
"Hehe... Hahaha! You fool, did you really think you could trick me? This pendant hasn’t changed one bit!" Seeing the pendant in his hand, Britney burst into laughter, mocking him mercilessly.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang shot Britney an exasperated look. "Ignorance is a scary thing, kiddo. Just watch."
With that, Lin Kuang opened the car window on Britney’s side and held the jade pendant right in front of her eyes. Just as Britney was curiously wondering what on earth he was doing, Lin Kuang suddenly puckered his lips and gently blew on the pendant in his palm.
PUFF.
With that single breath, the pendant’s mottled outer layer disintegrated into dust and drifted out the window. In an instant, an emerald-green jade pendant appeared in his palm. It was so completely different from before that it looked like another object entirely!
"You... you’re not kidding, right? Is this really the same pendant?" Britney asked, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Of course. Why would I lie to you? There’s no reason to," Lin Kuang said proudly.
"Let me see." Without waiting for him to agree, Britney snatched the pendant from his hand and began examining it closely.
The jade felt cool to the touch. The emerald-green pendant was translucent and completely flawless, its color utterly captivating.
"It’s gorgeous! So this is the pendant’s true form? It’s just so beautiful," Britney marveled, unable to put it down as her lovely eyes shone with a peculiar light.
"Naturally. Did you think I was just bragging about my eye for treasure?" Lin Kuang said, looking extremely smug at her astonished expression.
"This is amazing! My birthday is coming up, so does that mean you have to get me one too?" she asked, turning to Lin Kuang with a pitiful pout.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but roll his eyes. "Birthday, shmirthday. You just want one, don’t you? Once the business with Tianma is settled, I’ll take you to the antique street. I guarantee I’ll find you something nice."
"Really?" Britney asked, pleasantly surprised.
"Of course. I always keep my word," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
"Alright, it’s a deal!" Britney said happily, throwing her arms around his neck and planting a big kiss on his cheek.
"A kiss from a beauty is the best," Lin Kuang said with a laugh. "Come on, didn’t you want to go shopping? I also need to get a chain for this pendant."
"Mhm, okay! Let’s go!" Britney said excitedly.
Lin Kuang nodded and drove to the mall, where the two of them began to wander around. Lin Kuang had the pendant fitted with a new chain and setting, which cost several million. Meanwhile, Britney chose a jade bracelet. Though it wasn’t as pure as Lin Kuang’s pendant, it was still very nice, and of course, it was also priced at over ten million.
Lin Kuang offered to pay for it, but Britney refused. She insisted that since it was her birthday gift to Lin Guo’er, she had to buy it herself. How could she possibly use his money?
Seeing how insistent she was, Lin Kuang put away his bank card. Besides, tens of millions was a trivial amount to them, so it didn’t matter who paid.
"What else do we need to buy?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile once the pendant and the gift were taken care of.
"Why don’t we go get something to eat? I’m a little hungry," Britney suggested with a smile.
"Sounds good. What do you feel like eating? But maybe let’s not drink so much this time, alright?" Lin Kuang teased with a laugh.
Hearing this, Britney’s pretty face flushed red, and she shot him a fierce glare. "Last time wasn’t on purpose, you jerk! Don’t bring it up!" she snapped.
"Alright, alright. Let’s go eat."
With that, the two left the mall, found a specialty restaurant, and headed home after a satisfying meal.
By the time Lin Kuang and Britney got back, it was almost noon. All the other women were up by then. Even Yang Ruotong, who had partied hard the night before, was awake and had already freshened up.
"Hello, beauties! We’re back!" Lin Kuang announced with a grin as he walked into the living room.
"So you’re back. What’s with all the shouting?" Lin Guo’er retorted, rolling her eyes.
"Hey now, Guo’er darling, it’s your birthday. Why the long face?" Lin Kuang asked curiously.
"It’s my dad! He’s insisting I have a birthday party at home!" Lin Guo’er said unhappily. She had wanted to celebrate here with Lin Kuang and their friends, and maybe invite Duoduo and Susu from work. But her father was insisting she come home instead, which she found incredibly annoying.
"I see. So you don’t want to go back?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile, seeing her unhappy expression.
"Of course not! I can’t be bothered to go back. Besides, all the people who’ll show up just have ulterior motives. I don’t want to see any of them," Lin Guo’er huffed.
"Call your dad. Let me talk to him. I guarantee I’ll handle him," Lin Kuang said with a confident smile.
Today was Lin Guo’er’s birthday; her happiness was the most important thing. The idea that her father wanted to use the occasion for social networking displeased Lin Kuang.
